Neco Brett can’t be slowed down.

The forward for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is carrying over the momentum from his successful April to the month of May.

Brett scored the opening tally for Pittsburgh in their 2-1 victory over Toronto FC II. The match was held in Rochester, New York, at the Marina Auto Stadium.

Brett’s tally was unassisted in the 12′ minute.

The goal is his fourth against Toronto FC II out of his five total goals this season.

For Riverhounds SC head coach Bob Lilley, assistant coach Mark Pulisic and many former Rochester Rhinos players on the Riverhounds SC roster, it was a homecoming.

In front of 1,074 fans, Brett also notched an assist in the victory. Brett assisted Riverhounds SC captain Kevin Kerr in the 36′ minute.

However, Toronto did get on the board in second half stoppage time. To prevent Riverhounds SC goalkeeper Dan Lynd from earning another shut out, Shaan Hundal scored in the 90’+1′ minute.

His goal was assisted by Mariano Miño.

Three Takeaways

  1. Tobi in the midfield? Tobi Adewole, who has arguably been the best defender for Pittsburgh this season, did not start on defense tonight. Instead, Lilley gave him a bit of break, but then substituted him in for Kerr in the 86′ minute. I wouldn’t fix what’s not broken, so let’s get Adewole back in the midfield.
  2. The emergence of Thomas Vancaeyezeele: The rookie midfielder has reached an accolade this season that none of his teammates have earned this season. Vancaeyezeele has featured in all 630 minutes this season for the club. That’s a testament to not just how much faith Lilley has him in, but also to how his productivity is showing.
  3. Discipline showing effectively: Pittsburgh and Toronto did not earn a yellow card throughout the entire match from referee Elvis Esmanovic. Lilley’s discipline is showing through his team’s success.

Next Up

Pittsburgh will return to Highmark Stadium to face Indy Eleven on Friday.

The match will begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are still available. This is the first-ever meeting between the two sides, as Indy Eleven is in their first year in the USL.
