Steph and Ronda clashing at Wrestlemania is “Best for Bussiness”

With less than a month before Wrestlemania 34, the brass at WWE have struck gold. Signing “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey and pitting her against Stephanie McMahon is simply genius.

So in the Big Easy, at the biggest night in sports entertainment it will be Steph and Triple H vs. Ronda and Kurt Angle.

But, going with the current trend of the women’s revolution, WWE has decided to turn back the clock to the attitude era.

Think about it.

“The baddest woman on the planet” according to Triple H in the persona of Rousey, is the perfect foil to Stephanie.

Over the last 20 years, has there been a bigger, stronger woman than Steph to step between the ropes? Lita, Trish Status, Sable and scores of women have all entered and left the WWE, but an argument can be made that none of them carried the weight and expectations that Steph has always been burdened with carrying.

I can’t imagine being Vince McMahon’s daughter and handpicked heiress of the empire is easy. Truth is, as much as fans may hate and vilify Stephanie and Triple H inside the ring, off the T.V. screen fans should laud this power couple, because the story line of the women’s revolution has been a home run.

Here’s some more truth, Alexa Bliss, Bayley, Charlotte and Sasha Banks might be the headliners on the screen, but Stephanie is the unquestioned leader of the revolution. “Goddesses” and “Bosses” may inhabit the women’s roster but Stephanie is still the queen of her fathers empire.

However, her reign and throne has never been threatened or put under siege until the last few weeks,

Stephanie and Ronda might be the two strongest and charismatic women in the world of sports at the moment. A more perfect baby-face vs. heel  story line the WWE has not put on screen in years.

Fans have a few more weeks to digest this until they ultimately clash in New Orleans, but how the story unfolds should be appointment television for the die-hard WWE fan.

Getting back to the attitude era, the Rousey-McMahon story screams Vince and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The eyes and tone in Stephanie’s voice when she delivered the slap to Ronda at Elimination Chamber, channeling my inner Michael Cole, were “vintage Vince.”

Conversely, the steely glare of Ronda was a stare that even the Undertaker might run from.

Adding Triple H and Angle to the story line with Steph’s public apology and Hunter’s subsequent sucker punch to Angle was a predictable but an intriguing twist.

The revolution and evolution of the women in the WWE has been amazing to watch as a fan. History was made and barriers have been smashed at the Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber. The women of Raw and Smack Down have earned the right and respect of everyone to blaze their own road to Wrestlemania 34.

Stephanie McMahon vs. Ronda Rousey is more than just an interesting detour. It has the potential to be the biggest rivalry in the WWE in many years.

A fight to find out who is truly the baddest woman in the WWE.
