Ross Cockrell signs RFA tender, remains a Steeler

The Pittsburgh Steelers will officially have Ross Cockrell back for at least one more season.

Cockrell signed his restricted free agency tender on Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His tender will give him $1.97 million for the 2017-18 season.

The cornerback, who came to the Steelers in 2014, started all 16 games for the Steelers last season. He recorded 62 total tackles while adding on 14 pass deflections.

The University of Duke alum will be a probable starter, alongside either William Gay or Artie Burns. However, Cockrell will have some competition as Senquez Golson will be returning from an injury that kept him out for the entire season last year.

Back in March, Cockrell expressed to the Steelers’ official website about expectations this season.

“It’s going to start on Day 1, OTAs, minicamp,” said Cockrell. “People are going to realize there is only one standard and if you aren’t here for that, there really is no point in being here.”
