Dissertation Proposal Guidelines.

Writing Dissertation is one of the most tedious and monotonous tasks considered by most of the researchers. After the research work is carried out, the next job before the researcher is dissertation writing. Dissertation basically highlights researcher’s research i.e. aims or objectives, findings and conclusions. The dissertation process is usually undertaken for personal reasons or to obtain a degree or any professional qualification. Writing dissertation consumes a lot of time and effort of the researcher. So, to make your dissertation writing effective, enlisted below are certain guidelines, which should be always kept in mind while taking up this task:
  •  Knowledge about the topic: It’s important to have in-depth and thorough knowledge of the proposal topic. You should be well-versed about all aspects of the topic before you take up the writing process of the dissertation.

  • Length of the Proposal: There is no hard and fast rule as to what should be the length of your dissertation proposal. But an ideal proposal is expected to be around 20 pages long. No matter whatever be the length of the proposal, it should cover all the main and the important points of the research proposal.

  • Major parts of the dissertation:

    • Introduction:  The introduction should summarize the basic reasons behind the research. It should highlight the problem statement and give a brief overview of the dissertation proposal. The next step is to discuss about the importance of the study and describe in brief the various chapters in this dissertation proposal. Always remember that the introduction should not be too long as it is expected to bore the readers. Also, make sure that the introduction is as such, which is able to grab the attention of the readers at once and compel them to read the whole of it.

    • Problem statement: The next important task is to discuss briefly the problem statement of your dissertation writing. The researcher in this part should explain the importance of the problem and the need for conducting this research. This part is based on the context established in the introduction section.

    • Review of literature:  This section in the dissertation proposal should analyze the research that has been carried out by some other researcher on a topic similar to yours. It is quite useful to find out the differences and similarities with your research and provides you a base on how the research undertaken by you should be carried forward.

    • Methodology used in research: In this section, focus on the hypothesis (tentative assumption) on which the entire research was based, number of people on whom the research was carried out and most importantly the method that was used to collect the data i.e. qualitative, quantitative or both of these. All the questions relating to why, how and what of the research should be answered here.

    • Bibliography: This is the last section of the dissertation, which basically focuses on the list of references i.e. magazines, newspaper, periodicals etc. you must have consulted or referred to during your research process. It’s a must to acknowledge all the sources from where you have taken help.

    • Time management: Since dissertation writing takes up a lot of time, so allot yourself some time for finishing up the proposal. Stick to the time limit while writing the proposal otherwise you are bound to put yourself in a big trouble.
