Some quantitative aptitude Question with Solution for IBPS mains Exam

1.20 men can complete a piece of work in 15 days. One man starts the work and after every day one more man joins the work and this continues till the work is completed. Then, in how many days will the work be completed?

A)   22
B)   24
C)   25
D)   10
E)   None of these
Correct answer: B
Solution :

2.Fresh nuts contain 80% water by weight, whereas dry nuts contain 50% water by weight. Suresh buys 60 kg of fresh nuts for a total price of Rs.200. At what price should he sell the dry nuts (fresh nuts are dried up) to earn 20% profit?

A)   Rs.8 per kg
B)   Rs.9 per kg
C)   Rs.10 per kg
D)   Rs.12 per kg
E)   None of these
Correct answer: C
Solution:

3.The average of first N consecutive natural numbers is 98/13 when one number is deleted. Then, find the value of that number.

A)   7
B)   13
C)   9
D)   5
E)   None of these
Correct answer: A

4. In an examination, Ram, Mohan and Raj scored 28%, 36% and 53% marks respectively. Out of these three candidates, two passed the exam, and out of these two, one passed with 33 marks more than the pass marks, while Ram failed by 17 marks. Find the pass marks.

A)   192
B)   73
C)   112
D)   Can’t be determined
E)   None of these
Correct answer: D
Solution:

Let the pass marks be x and the total marks be y.

So, x – 17 = 0.28y                 … (i)

x + 33 = 0.36y                       … (ii)

or, x + 33 = 0.53y                 … (iii)

Again, solving (i) and (ii),

x = 192, y = 625

Again, solving (i) and (iii)

x = 73, y = 200

Hence we can’t determine the pass marks.

Note: Here, Mohan and Raj passed with 33 more marks. The two different candidates give different values of pass marks. In other words, two equations give two different values. Thus, cannot be determined.

5.A solid diamond falls and breaks into three pieces whose weights are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4. The value of each piece is directly proportional to the square of their weights. Given that the value of solid diamond is Rs.24300, find the loss due to breakage.

A)   Rs.14300
B)   Rs.11400
C)   Rs.14600
D)   Rs.15600
E)   None of these
Correct answer: D

Directions: Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read the questions and both the statements and give answer

6.What is the average of P, 40, 60, 76, S and T?

  1. P is six more than S.
  2. T is four less than P.

A)   if the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
B)   if the data in statement II aloneare sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
C)   if the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
D)   if the data in both statement I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.
E)   if the data in both statement I and II together are necessary to answer the question.
Correct answer: D

Solution :
From I. P = 6 + S

From II. T = P – 4

From I and II. We can’t determine the value of P, T and S.

7.What is the percentage profit earned by selling a car for Rs.640000?

I. The amount of profit earned by selling the car is Rs.320000.
II. The SP of the car is twice the CP.
A) if the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
B) if the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
C) if the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
D) if the data in both statement I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.
E) if the data in both statement I and II together are necessary to answer the question.
Correct answer: C

Solution:

From I. CP = 640000 – 320000
= Rs.320000
Hence from I we can find the percentage profit.
From II. SP = 2 × CP
If CP be x then SP will be 2x. So 100% profit will be earned.

8 Is a two-digit number divisible by 16?

I. The sum of the two digits of the number is 10.
II. The product of the two digits of the number is 24.
Correct answer: D

Solution:

9.How many students from Institute B got placement?

I. The number of students studying in Institute B and C are in the ratio of 3 : 4.
II. 60% of the students studying in Institute B got placement.
Correct answer: D

Solution:

10: What is the labelled price of an article?

II. The SP after offering 5% discount on the labelled price is Rs.570.
