Ex-Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola reveals the biggest challenge of his career

Pep Guardiola would certainly go into the history books as one of the greatest coaches the game has ever seen.

He has dominated every league he has ever coached, beginning from his time in the dugout at the Camp No to the Allianz Arena and now the Etihad.

Guardiola endured a tough start in the Premier League, going trophyless in his first season. But a Premier League title win last season with a whooping 19 points difference with second-placed Manchester United, pretty much stated his intentions boldly.

The Spaniard didn’t only win the league but did so in style and set a number of records along the road.

Interestingly, he has picked out Manchester City’s constant battle with Manchester United as his toughest challenge.

United have won 13 Premier League titles between 1993 and 2013, and have also proved themselves in the Champions League which is something that City are yet to do.

On behind the scenes documentary All or Nothing, Guardiola said: “We have neighbours who, for 15 or 20 years, have always won.

“I think my biggest challenge as a manager is to change that.”

Legendary United coach, Alex Ferguson had always called City their ‘noisy neighbours’. But Guardiola has defended his side and hailed the dressing room atmosphere of the team.

He added: “I like to have a noisy dressing room before a match.

“I feel that animates the players more.

“What I miss from my time as a player is the locker room.

“It’s the nicest place to be, apart from the pitch, when there are jokes, everyone is all together, they criticise the manager and share the good and bad moments.”
