Diego Maradona’s message to Lionel Messi on his decision to temporarily retire

Argentine international, Lionel Messi, has reportedly taken a big decision to step aside from the Argentina national team.

Leo was part of the team that put in a disappointment performance in Russia and has decided to be fully focused on club football.

Messi’s decision is understood to be just temporary and he is not expected to play with the Argentine national team again for the rest of the year (Read here).

Reacting to the latest decision of Messi, Diego Maradona, has shown his support and also slammed the Argentina Football Federation (AFA).

Maradona told Ole via Sport: “I’d give Messi room to breathe, a break. I’d tell him to play in Europe, not to travel any more and not let them use him.”

The 1986 World Cup winner was once again critical of Jorge Sampaoli who was fired from his job as the team coach after the World Cup.

“If you’re tightening your belt at home and don’t eat bread but then throw a party for 15 people with a special cake for your daughter, it doesn’t make sense.”

“The AFA said they didn’t have money but then they offer Sampaoli a 20M contract. It doesn’t deserve to be analysed.”
