Transfer moves: Valverde holds first meeting with top directors (newly appointed Eric Abidal joined in)

Barcelona are very aware that July 1st is approaching and the club are taking proactive steps to avoid any last minute transfer deals this summer.

Ernesto Valverde would be leading the team in his second season in charge after a positive first season.

Valverde won the domestic double with Barcelona who many didn’t think they would perform that well (incredible unbeaten run) in the league after the exit of Neymar.

A number of changes would be made at the club as they tune things up to meet Valverde’s requirements.

The tactician would be actively involved in the club’s transfer plans and has already held a meeting with the Barcelona decision makers when it comes to transfer.

In attendance at the meeting (which took place at the Joan Gamper Ciudad Deportiva) were managing director, Pep Segura, Ramon Planes and the newly Appointed Eric Abidal.

Abidal was appointed as the club’s new sporting director, taking over from Robert Fernandez who leaves his position on June 30.

The french defender made almost 200 appearances for Barca in a six-year spell after joining from Lyon in 2007.

He won it all with Barcelona and his trophy cabinet would include four league titles, two Copas del Rey, two Champions Leagues, four Spanish Super Cups, two Super Cups and two World Club Cups.

Abidal was officially presented last Tuesday and will now work to bring in the very best players for Barcelona.
