Lionel Messi targets new record against Real Madrid

The Spanish Super Cup kicks off at 10pm CET tonight and fans are fully expectant to be a treated to a thrilling game.

It never disappoints as both defenses would definitely be split apart by defense-breaking passing and top tactical awareness.

And in the end it would be down to which team takes their chances, or simply to the individual talents of either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi would be the key man from Barcelona as the gifted magician can produce the impossible from nothing.

Going into the game, Messi is eyeing an individual record for the Barcelona player with the most wins against Real Madrid.

Sitting on top of that table is Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, who got 17 wins in 42 games against Los Blancos before he left Spanish football to Qatar.

Messi comes in second with 16 wins, but has got them in just 34 El Clasicos. And a double on Sunday night sees him surpass Xavi’s record of wins against Real Madrid.

Andres Iniesta also knows what it feels like to win against his fierce rivals, after tasting victory 15 times in 35 encounters.

However, all three players are well behind Real Madrid legend, Paco Gento. Gento spent over 18 years playing for Real Madrid and managed 21 Clasico wins in 42 derbies.

When it comes to El Clasico losses, players like Ramos, Raul and Manolo Sanchis and ex-Barca man Joan Segarra, jointly hold the record on 16 losses.

And since Sergio Ramos is the only active player at the moment he could be taking the unwanted honor sooner rather than later.
