The Good

It’s not easy to make the final 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie in the NFL, but that is exactly what Garcia-Williams did in 2017. He first made the practice squad then fought his way onto the active roster to contribute heavily on special teams. In college, he showed a nose for the football and solid tackling skills. He is an underrated guy that will find himself in the mix for the final 53-man roster again this season.

The Bad

He doesn’t have a whole lot of experience in coverage, so he is more of a run stopper. Although he had injury concerns coming out of college, that didn’t show up last season.

Quotable

Jerrol Garcia-Williams got his shot last year when Corey Nelson went down with an injury and he did not disappoint. Former special teams coordinator Brock Olivo noted how well Garcia-Williams impressed the coaching staff in training camp last season.

“Big time,” Olivo said. “Corey was a great special-teams player for us, one of our leaders and captain qualities. We’re going to miss Corey big time. We’re going to have Jerrol Garcia-Williams up active now and Jerrol is a very good football player. He has a bright future, we loved him in training camp and he’s here for a reason. We’re excited to see what Jerrol is going to do.”

2018 Status

It would be a mistake to sleep on Garcia-Williams. Despite the Broncos picking up Josey Jewell in the 2018 NFL Draft, Garcia-Williams played well enough last season to have a shot at pushing for one of the active roster spots from the inside linebacker position.
