Dolphins sign Sam Young

The Miami Dolphins have signed offensive tackle Sam Young, the team announced on Monday. Young had been released by the team on Saturday as they looked to promote Jamiyus Pittman to the active roster to add depth to the defensive line prior to the team’s Week 6 contest against the Chicago Bears. Young now returns to the team and will resume his role as a reserve offensive lineman.

To make roster space for Young, the Dolphins waived safety Maurice Smith. Smith initially joined the Dolphins in May 2017 as an undrafted free agent. He has appeared in 10 games, including four this season, tallying three tackles and one pass defensed. He originally started this season on the practice squad, and Miami could look to bring him back to the practice squad should he clear waivers.

Young has played in 81 games in his career with 20 starts since being a sixth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2010. Since joining Miami in 2016, he has appeared in 23 games with six starts. Young has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
