90-in-90 Miami Dolphins Roster Breakdown (With GIFs): Laremy Tunsil

Let’s see what we have in Ryan Tannehill’s blind side.

Let’s take a look at one of the players on our 90-man preseason roster: Laremy Tunsil.

This year, we have already finished looks at 20 players, Wide Receiver Leonte Carroo, punter Matt Haack, safety T.J. McDonald, running back Buddy Howell, wide receiver DeVante Parker, defensive end William Hayes, wide receiver Isaiah Ford, safety/cornerback Walt Aikens, defensive end Claudy Mathieu, linebacker Kiko Alonso, cornerback Xavien Howard, long snapper Lucas Gravelle, wide receiver Danny Amendola, tight end A.J. Derby, running back Frank Gore, defensive tackle Gabe Wright, wide receiver Kenny Stills, cornerback Tony Lippett, and kickers Jason Sanders and Greg Joseph.

2017 Review

Although LT is Laremy Tunsil’s natural position (fitting since it’s his initials), he spent the 2016 season at left guard, with spot duty at Left Tackle. 2017 was Tunsil’s first full year at left tackle, and it was a mixed bag of results. Generally speaking, the pass blocking is up-to-par and the run blocking needs improvement. Too many false start penalties were also concerning (I looked at all 8 false start penalties, and by my count, he deserved 5 of those.)

Why he will progress

He’s a young, talented player who finally had a season’s worth of LT reps. He has all the physical tools to be an elite left tackle in the NFL. In the GIF below, just in case you’re worried about him being “too finesse”, he can handle a bull rush just fine.

Why he will regress

Considering the penalties and missed assignments, the main reason he would regress is because of mental errors leading to a sacrifice in confidence. That, or devastating injury (I literally just knocked on wood so don’t accuse me of jinxing anything you dirty scoundrels).

Chances of making the 53-man roster

It’ll take a crazy set of circumstances for Laremy Tunsil not to be the starting left tackle for the Miami Dolphins, let alone not make the roster at all. He’s in aqua and orange 100% in 2018.
