Williams and Montgomery dominate an exciting weekend of college football

NFL Draft prospects of the week

In a college football weekend full of big upsets, the only people upset with David Montgomery and Quinnen Williams were their opponents.

David Montgomery made short work of a ranked — and previously undefeated — West Virginia team. The junior running back rushed 29 times for 189 yards and 1 touchdown. Montgomery shook and shimmied his way through the Mountaineer defense, forcing 14 missed tackles. His best game of 2018 couldn’t have come at a better time as he carried his Cyclones to a huge win. Montgomery had a lot of hype coming into this year, but a slow start pushed him off a lot of radars. After his third straight 100 yard performance, people might start to take notice again. The 5’11”, 216 pounder looked a lot more spry against West Virginia after dealing with small injuries all season. If his health holds up the rest of the season, Montgomery will be running his way back up draft rankings everywhere.

About 800 miles away, the Crimson Tide rolled through another opponent. The whole team is operating like a well oiled machine, with each player performing at an unfathomably high level. That makes Quinnen Williams’ ability to stand out even more impressive. The redshirt sophomore has been a force in Tuscaloosa this season and his performance against Missouri was no different. Not only did he stuff the stat sheet up with a sack and a a tackle for a loss; but he was a general force against the run while generating pressure on passing downs. Williams has been on a tear in his first year as a starter and he might try to carry that momentum to the NFL.
