Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/21/17.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

NFL Front Office Power Rankings: 49ers, Buccaneers challenge Patriots for top spot - CBS Sports
5) Carson Wentz is the quarterback of the future, so the Eagles were wise to go get him some weapons. Landing Alshon Jeffery on a one-year prove-it deal is huge. So is getting Torrey Smith, a receiver who was stuck on a horrible San Francisco team, which hid his talents. Don't overlook the signing of Chris Long and the drafting of Sidney Jones, who will be hurt at the beginning of the year, but could display his first-round talent once he makes his way back.

LeGarrette Blount roasted the crap out of some dude on Twitter - BGN
I think Philadelphia Eagles fans are going to really like LeGarrette Blount.

The Eagles make it official and sign LeGarrette Blount, so what are your expectations?

Report: LeGarrette Blount won't care when he fumbles in Philadelphia - PhillyVoice
When LeGarrette Blount fumbled while playing with the New England Patriots, he cared. He won't care when he fumbles while playing with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Gary Tanguay of CSN New England, who appeared on CSN's Philly Sports Talk this week. In one of the smartest sports TV appearances that I've ever seen, Tanguay said definitively that Blount, who the Eagles signed this week, will be a disaster in Philadelphia.

The Future at RB - Iggles Blitz
We all wanted the Eagles to get a franchise RB this spring. The team wanted that to. Things didn’t work out as planned so the Eagles signed veteran LeGarrette Blount to be the starter for 2017 and drafted Donnel Pumphrey to develop into a role player. What about the future? The 2017 draft class was loaded at RB. 2018 could be as well. The top guy is Saquon Barkley, the star from Penn State. The bad news is that most people right now think he will be a Top 10 pick. The Eagles won’t sniff him unless they have a disastrous season or find some key pieces to use in a trade to move up. As much as I would love to see Barkley playing for the Eagles, let that dream go and look elsewhere.

Michael Vick to play in trial game for American Flag Football League - ESPN
Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick is coming back to the gridiron in a new professional flag football league that is testing out the concept in a game next month. The American Flag Football League, which aims to launch eight league-owned franchises in 2018, is hosting a game featuring Vick and former NFL running back Justin Forsett at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California, on June 27.

Blount gives Eagles balance in the backfield - Inquirer
For all the hand-wringing over the lack of movement at running back earlier this offseason, the Eagles remained patient both in free agency and the draft and added two pieces without overspending at a position that continues to decrease in value in the pass-happy NFL. Despite a narrative about a renaissance at running back, teams are still reluctant to invest in a position where the players have a shorter life span and a lessening impact - at least individually - on the game.

Eagles Mailbag: Linebackers, Alshon Jeffery stats, possible trades - CSN Philly
Well, let's start with the best linebacker on the roster, Jordan Hicks. I think Hicks is probably one of the most under-appreciated players on the team. He had a fantastic 2016 season, and perhaps more importantly, was able to play in all 16 games. He finished the year with 95 tackles and five interceptions. His five picks led the team. The area Hicks needs to improve — and he's admitted it — is against the run. But he actually had a pretty good excuse last year. After tearing his pec, he wasn't able to gain upper-body strength. His plan this offseason was to get bigger, which he thinks will help him improve as a run-stuffer. If he can, he's a Pro Bowl-caliber player.

10 biggest questions still facing Eagles going into OTAs - NJ.com
It is a safe assumption that, even though it is still up in the air, that Jones won't play this season. That leaves the Eagles with plenty to figure out at cornerback over these next few months. The one sure thing seems to be that second-year corner Jalen Mills will be in one of the starting spots. Opposite Mills will likely be veteran Patrick Robinson, but the Eagles would probably prefer that rookie Rasul Douglas wins one of those spots.

Colin Kaepernick's jersey will now live at the Smithsonian - SB Nation
The jersey is expected to be on rotation in an exhibit within 2 years.
