Jose Mourinho commends Paul Pogba’s performance in Champions League draw at Sevilla

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho hailed the efforts of Paul Pogba in the Red Devils’ Champions League goalless draw at Sevilla.

The Frenchman started the game as a substitute in a move by Mourinho which caused a lot of controversy amongst United fans.

However, Pogba was summoned onto the pitch on 17 minutes after Ander Herrera pulled up with a suspected hamstring injury.

And it turned out to be a largely successful night for Pogba and United who managed to keep Sevilla at bay in what was their first Champions League knockout stage game in four years.

The Red Devils largely had keeper David De Gea to thank for keeping them in the tie after the Spaniard pulled off a number of saves including a magnificent point-blank save to deny Luis Muriel what looked to be a certain goal.

However, Mourinho was full of praise for the United midfield for controlling the game, which Pogba was a part of.

Mourinho said: “I think Paul made a big effort to try to give the team what I asked the team but he also gave us stability because we had a good percentage of ball possession for the way we play a match away to a good team like Sevilla

“A good percentage of the ball means control of the game and I think Paul had the responsibilities on that and I am also happy with Matic.

“I think the three midfielders had good control of the games and Paul was a part of it.”

The two sides meet for the second leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday 13th March.
