U.S. Open Day Two: Pack of ‘Dawgs chasing a major title.

Day two of the U.S. Open at Erin Hills is underway, and the Georgia Bulldog contingent just may be a part of the story when the weekend rolls around. Early in round two UGA alum Brian Harman sits Tied for 4th at five under par, while fellow ‘Dawg Russell Henley is in 9th at three under. Harris English sits comfortably inside the cut line at two under (tied for 16th).

The news isn’t as good for Kevin Kisner, who shot a two over par 74 on Thursday, sits tied in 81st with a gaggle of other golfers, and needs a solid round to make it to the weekend. Kisner will tee off at 2:09 p.m. local time, 3:09 eastern. The good news for Kisner, if there is any, is that he is neither the blimp pilot who had to parachute from his flaming dirigible on day one, nor Bubba Watson, whose Thursday round of three over leaves him tied for 101st and in serious danger of missing the cut. Watson is on the course as of this writing, which may be good news for reasons discussed below.

Scores on Thursday were heinously low by U.S. Open standards, with some pre-tournament rain probably helping to slow the course down a little. But that leaves the forecast today and I would expect the course to be a little more penal from here on out, especially into the afternoon today. I think guys like Watson who are on the cutline will glean a serious advantage getting out this morning versus players like Kisner teeing off after lunch.

With three Red and Black golfers within five shots of current coleaders Ricky Fowler and Paul Casey, there’s a decent chance that someone who spent time in Athens will book a solid finish in a major this weekend. And with a little luck, we may just have another Bulldog major champion. Until later . . .

Go ‘Dawgs!!!!
