Jose Mourinho contacts FC Porto about 20-year-old Brazilian defender – report

Jose Mourinho has contracted FC Porto to wrap up a deal to sign Brazilian defender Eder Militao, according to a report in Brazil.

Brazilian media outlet UOL Sporte, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that the Manchester United manager has become personally involved to ensure the signing of the 20-year-old.

The same article states that the FC Porto star has a contract release clause in the region of €50m (£45m), which is a figure that Manchester United will have to match to secure his signing.

According to the same story, the Red Devils had scouts present at FC Porto’s 4-1 win against Portimonense at the weekend ahead of a potential swoop in the January transfer window.

UOL Sporte add that Mourinho has called his former employers in an attempt to wrap up a deal to sign Militao as the Portuguese head coach looks to improve his injury ravaged Manchester United defence.

The Red Devils could face competition from Chelsea FC and Everton for the promising FC Porto defender ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.

Manchester United have the fifth-worst defensive record in the Premier League this term to underline the need to improve their back four.

The 20-time English champions slumped to a 3-1 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
