Today, Steve Berman of The Athletic submitted an apology for his reaction on Twitter regarding the now false allegations and charges that were levied against 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster in February.

He admitted that he was wrong and let his emotions get the best of him. He also stated that he was acting irrationally in his responses to the detail of the charges that were filed against the young man.

Very nice Steve. It’s hard to come out and write such a humbling apology. I give you the utmost respect for doing so.

I myself have stood by my initial thoughts. feelings, and comments on this issue since day one.

From the start I was one of those who cited due process was important here, that was of course before any of us know that Foster’s ex-girlfriend Elissa Ennis had recanted her initial statement, let alone been jailed for falsely accusing a previous ex-boyfriend of domestic violence.

I was chastised on Facebook and Twitter for my comments, amid hundreds of replies that the team was gutless in not cutting him immediately.

It’s a sad thing when in this day and age people are more concerned with being a good Social Justice Warrior then they are with a man’s legal rights and being innocent until proven guilty.

Because they all knew that there was no chance that she was lying about her accusations. There was also no chance the weaselly Santa Clara D.A., in his infinite wisdom could have filed these charges because he had an apparent vendetta for Foster. It appeared to me that that from the beginning he was hellbent on making an example of the man regardless of the facts at hand.

He was going to use Reuben as his springboard to higher political positions and a rallying cry that no one, no matter who they are will escape justice for domestic violence, even if that person is in fact innocent.

And now as I write this, per Matt Barrows, news has just come across my screen that the District Attorney in Alabama has decided to completely drop the marijuana charges stemming from his arrest in Tuscaloosa County last February.

So now, as it stands the only legal issue at hand for Foster is the reduced weapons charge from the incident with Ennis in which police found a SIG Sauer 516 short-barreled rifle in his Los Gatos home.

Moving forward Foster and the 49ers must work towards ensuring that he is never in a position to result in legal issues ever again. The onus for that however falls squarely on Fosters shoulders and no one else’s.
