NHL East Playoffs Overview.

Tags: series

With all of the hoopla and excitement going on in the NBA right now because of playoff time, the NHL usually takes a backseat. I personally feel like in NHL does not do a good job at scheduling these playoffs because the NHL is easily the least watched sport out of the "Top 4". If the general public have to choose between watching an NBA playoff game or NHL playoff game, they are more than likely going to pick the first choice. There was an interesting fact that come out the other day on SportsMash that said that in DC, NHL viewing beat out the NBA viewing audience in the area by 57%. At first, I was like, "Oh wow, thats crazy I never thought that that would happen." I then reminded myself that DC's teams include the horrible and less than average, no way in hell we will ever make the playoffs this year Washington Wizards compared to the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference, Washington Capitals. That put that statistic in perspective for me. Still interesting to me, however. Nevertheless, it is playoff time in a sport in America. That calls for some mentioning from your Sports Guru.

Eastern Conference:

The (1) Washington Capitals have already defeated the (8) New York Rangers in five games. The Rangers honestly did not show a lot of promise throughout this series at all, only scoring 8 goals in 5 games. Ovechkin did not fail to disappoint in this series and the Capitals will move on to face the lowest remaining seed in that Conference. A lot of things are still up in the air for who the Caps might have to play next.

The (4) (Crosbyless) Pittsburgh Penguins are matched up with the (5) Tampa Bay Lightning. The Penguins lead that series 3-2 going down to Tampa Bay for tonight's game. I think that the Penguins will pull this series out whether it happens down in Tampa, or back in Pittsburgh for Game 7

The (2) Flyers got matched up with the (7) Sabres in the first round, a tough draw for a 2 seed. This series has been up and down, most recently the Sabres had the Flyers up against the wall, being up 3 games to 2, but the Flyers showed some heart out there, winning an OT battle 5-4 to tie up the series, this should be an interesting game 7 back in Philly.

Finally, the (3) Boston Bruins v. (6) Montreal Canadiens has been extremely fun to watch. The higher seeded Boston Bruins went down early in the series, losing two games on their home ice. But they have thundered back to take a 3-2 series lead going into Game 6. Bruins complete the comeback in not 6, but 7 games.

There is your Eastern Conference catch-up for the NHL Playoffs. Tomorrow will be the Western Conference. You can look at more NHL statistics and stories at PuckDaddy
