Gear Up For FIM World Indoor X-Trial Championship

Those of you who have been getting bored because of the lack of motorsports action over the past few weeks, there is some good news. The FIM World Indoor X-Trial Championship is headed your way for the nineteenth straight year. It will be held at the Sheffield Motorpoint Arena in the United Kingdom on Saturday, January 4, 2014.

Since the Moto GP and Formula 1 seasons came to an end in November this year, there has not been much action for the racing enthusiasts. Moreover, the Race of Champions (ROC) was also called off because of political unrest in Hong Kong, which left the fans all over the world dejected.

Luckily for them, there will be no hindrances in the FIM World Indoor X-Trial Championship and it will be held on schedule. This is certainly great news for the motorsports fans worldwide, especially the ones in the United Kingdom. Tickets are already up for sale and you should book yours before there is no room left.

The organisers have also decided to give away 10 free tickets to some of the fans through a lucky draw, Riderwear helmets has learnt. There are no charges of entering the draw, so you should hurry up. You can enter through email or Twitter and the process is quite easy. All you have to do is give away your details until Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Afterwards, no entries will be accepted.

In case you wish to enter the draw through email, send in your personal details to [email protected] and mention StarCompWIX in the subject. You have to provide the same information through Twitter if you opt for it, but for this you need to first follow Graham Walker @GW1962. Don’t forget to mention #StarCompWIX in your tweet.

Coming back to the event, it has got a great history and has attracted quite a large number of spectators since it first started. There are actually a couple of categories, organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and the first one was the outdoor trials that began way back in the 1960s.

When the first outdoor trials started in 1964, the winner was titled ‘International Trial Master.’ Briton Don Smith was the one to succeed in the debut season. With the passage of time, the triumphant motorcyclist was given different names, but since 1981 the winner is known to be ‘World Trials Champion.’

It was not until 1993 when the first indoor trial championship was held. Although the organisers took quite a long time to realise the potential of such an event, yet they finally managed to make it a reality and achieved a lot of success.

During all those years, the world has seen some really great trial riders such as Dougie Lampkin and Jordi Tarrés, but none of them was as successful as Antoni Bou, who simply came, saw and conquered. He has been the World Trials Champion in both outdoors and indoors categories for the past seven years, which makes him the most successful rider of all time already. He is still very young and no one knows whether how many more championships he bags before hanging up his boots.

The Spaniard won the title for the first time in 2007 and at that time, he became the second youngest trial rider to achieve that feat and the youngest to do so in the four-stroke era. He rides for Montesa Honda and has been a tough nut to crack over all these years.

Because of the recent dominance of Antoni Bou, Spain has become the most successful country in the sport, bagging a total of 32 titles whereas the United Kingdom is second on the list with 22. Had the indoor trials started in the 60s, who knows how many championships would the latter have won by now, but that is not the case.

No matter what, the World Indoor X-Trial Championship is certainly plenty of fun for the participants and the spectators all over the world. This year will be no different at all and there will be plenty of entertainment. There are just a few days left in Christmas and soon after the holidays, you will be able to witness the best riders from the world battling against each other in Sheffield, so stay tuned for all the action.
