Miami Heat: Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh Don’t Equal A Title

What is wrong with the Miami Heat?

Championship runs demand chemistry, passion, talent, and practice.

The Heat only have two of those – talent and passion – at this point in the 2010-11 NBA season.

They’re finding that it’s going to take some time to gel, before they’re handed the accolades and praise of a media heavyweight like ESPN.

No, wait, that’s already been done.

ESPN is becoming the entertainment side of sports, and nothing more. They hype players joining the professional level like everyone’s the next Michael Jordan, and are becoming the hallmark for leading fans to disappointment more often than the other way around.

And we are finding how overhyped and over-analyzed Lebron and Bosh’s move to the Heat was. There are many glaring issues that need to be addressed before Miami begins to blend and play together as one.

Bosh’s label as a star in the NBA has been ripped away from him like a band-aid that’s overstayed its welcome.

Bosh was dominated on the defensive side of the ball by Paul Millsap the other night, allowing Millsap to terrorize the Heat for 46 points, including the improbable put-back to tie the game and force overtime.

The Jazz then won the game. A game that was forfeited by the Heat; they blew a 22 point lead in the second half.

Then there is the second defeat in the early-going to the Celtics, 112-107.

Boston led essentially the entire way through the game with a double-digit lead, before the Heat charged back, closing the gap but ultimately falling short to fall to 5-4 on the season.

Not much can be done when a team is virtually running on the talent of two players, and everyone knows two doesn’t equal a team.

James and Wade are shouldering the load to this point with the disappointing Bosh, although they don’t quite have what they had the years before either.

Does this mean there are better things to come; that the Heat haven’t hit their stride just yet?

Unless the role players, and Bosh step up their game, it’s doubtful.

Joel Anthony is averaging less than 2 points and 3.8 boards a game, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas averages six points and four rebounds. Then there’s Carlos Arroyo averaging six points and less than 1.8 assists.

Less than 2 assists, surrounded by Lebron, Wade, and Bosh! Are you kidding me?

That’s not going to get it done. If the Heat are serious about winning a title, and going on a dynasty run, they need to think long and hard about working a deal involving a point guard with some flash(Tony Parker), or a center that will hold it down in the paint.

With the hefty salaries of James, Wade, and Bosh, it will be tough to create the cap space to make a deal, or even bring on another player capable of rising the team to another level.

The clock is ticking, and something needs to be done.

Mike Miller’s return won’t save Miami’s 2010-11 season from an unfortunate demise.
