The Knicks “Big Three”: Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Amar’e Could Soon Be United

Carmelo Anthony wants out of Denver.  Anthony’s thought to be headed to the brighter lights and exhilarating nightlife of the Big Apple and the New York Knicks.

The move would come to no surprise as the newest Knick, Amar’e Stoudemire, openly confirmed he was recruiting both Anthony and one of the league’s best point guards: Chris Paul.

Getting both to willingly want out of their current contracts and come to the Madison Square Garden is no easy feat; not even for a charismatic guy like Stoudemire.

But the attempts at persuasion might have been successful as both ‘Melo and Paul approached their respective teams with a short list of teams they want to be traded to.

The Knicks made an appearance on both lists and are rumored to be the most coveted destination for Paul and Anthony.

Anthony declined the Nuggets’ offered extension of three years and $65 million.  The two other teams named on his list are the Houston Rockets and the New Jersey Nets, and it is widely believed that should Anthony be traded, he would be willing to sign a long-term deal with the new team.

If he is not traded, he will stay a melancholy Nugget, and then bolt for free agency when the 2010-11 season is said and done.

Another option for the point guard spot is the Spurs’ beloved Tony Parker, but obviously CP3 is the preferred option by Knicks fans.

The disgruntled Paul listed the Orlando Magic and the L.A. Lakers along with the New York Knicks as the teams he would give his consent to.  The Magic and Lakers both make perfect sense in that they need point guards.  The Magic could offer up Jameer Nelson and there is no doubt the Lakers would tempt the Hornets with an enticing package deal.

But the ‘sole mate’ for Paul is the New York Knicks and D’Antoni’s high-octane offense.  Imagining Paul running from end to end, dishing to ‘Melo on the wing or Amar’e down low is like throwing together some of Hollywood’s finest to make another Bond film.

There would be dunking–tons of it, alley-oops, knee-buckling cross-overs, and maybe the first 200 point game.  Who knows what could happen when three of the highest skilled offensive players are brought together under D’Antoni’s system.

The storyline that will turn heads and make this potential news BIG is that they will be the second trio and will present the Heat with a rival “Big Three.”  Fans would do the unthinkable to watch those six superstars battle it out to the end.

Just think about Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Paul, Stoudemire, and Anthony all on one court.  It would be like an all-star game.  But there would be one notable difference; both sides would mean business and actually try to win the game.

No, no,we won’t have any 7’0″ centers arousing the crowd by doing a horrible impersonation of a point guard commanding an offense, ahem, Shaq.  This match-up would be skilled player versus skilled player all through the lineup and they would be grinding it out to the end.

But it is still a dream at this point.  No one knows whether Anthony and Paul’s wishes will be honored by the Hornets and Nuggets.

If those wishes do come true, though, then, Lebron, Wade, and Bosh–you’re old news.  The newest ‘Big Three’ has just arrived.
