There captain has been linked with a move to Real Madrid all week, and it looks like Suning are finally going to sit down with Mauro Icardi and his agent Wanda, to renew his contract and raise his release clause.

After flirting with a move to Napoli just over a year ago, Icardi signed a new Deal that made him the highest paid player at the club and included a €110m release clause for foreign clubs.

At the time that would have been a world record deak, but with the €222m transfer of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé’s €180m loan with obligation to buy to the same club and Ousmane Dembélé’s €105m move to Barcelona; that clause no longer looks as prohibitive as it was intended to be.

As a result, calciomercato.com reports, the Nerazzurri will offer Icardi a new deal, but only as long as they reach the Champions League.

That Champions League condition makes no sense as it implies that Suning would be interested in selling their best player if they finish outside the top four this season. If Inter are to challenge Napoli and Juve, not just this season but in the seasons to come, they need a predatory striker like Icardi.
