Teams named for The Royal Trophy


Both the European and Asian teams have been named for The Royal Trophy set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand 7-8 January 2006.

The course in which the event is being played at is Amanta Spring Golf Club located in Bangkok has a 7400 plus yard layout and is described as "the finest jewel in Thailands golfing crown" More info on the course can be found here.

The Royal Trophy promoted as a ‘history making event’, the cream of Europe takes on the elite of Asia in this new team matchplay competition described as ‘the great battle of the two continents’.

Each team will comprise eight players, led by a captain. They will compete in a series of 16 matches involving foursomes, four-ball and singles. The Royal Trophy offers a total prize fund of US$1.5 million, with the winning team sharing $1 million and the losers sharing $500,000.

Captaining the European Team is the legendary Seve Ballesteros and the rival captain said to be one of Japans most decorated and respected golfers Masahiro Kuramoto will head the Asian team.

The teams are as follows:

Europe - David Howell (ENG), Paul McGinley (IRE), Thomas Bjorn (DEN), Kenneth Ferrie (ENG), Henrik Stenson (SWE), Graeme McDowell (NIR), Nick Faldo (ENG), Ian Woosnam (WAL)

Asia - Thaworn Wiratchant (THA), Thongchai Jaidee (THA), Jyoti Randhawa (IND), Yasuharu Imano (JPN), Keiichiro Fukabori (JPN), S.K. Ho (KOR), Arjun Atwal (IND), Zhang Lian Wei (CHN)
