The Canucks roster could see some serious turnover this offseason but which faces will we see in 2019-20

The Canucks have been tied to nearly every free agent and have had their name thrown around in numerous trade talks already. It will be safe to say that this Canucks roster will have a face lift for certain but who on this roster will we see back next season, and who will see themselves playing elsewhere next season.

These are just predictions taking into consideration that some players have already been throw-out in trade talks and that some Contract talks have completely stalled.

Let's get into it.

Elias Pettersson

In no world do the Canucks part with its soon to be named Calder trophy winner.

Brock Boeser

Yes, contract talks are moving slow but how could the Canucks let its best winger walk especially with the RFA status. Jim Benning has publicly stated he wants this Deal done sooner rather than later.

Bo Horvat

Likely to be named captain before the start of the season it’s hard to find a scenario where Bo gets moved. Elliotte Friedman stated on ‘The Program’ on Sportsnet 650 that he hasn't heard Horvat’s named in trade talks in years and doesn't expect it too.

Quinn Hughes

Still with 2 years on his entry level deal, Hughes will absolutely be on the ice come camp.

Thatcher Demko & Jacob Markstrom

Markstrom took strides to becoming an every game NHL starter and Thatcher Demko is still the goalie of the future. Plus, Mikey Dipietro is still a few years away from making the NHL jump. This tandem will have at least one more year together.

Antoine Roussel

With a no trade clause and an injury that probably won't see the rooster hit the ice until mid-season he will absolutely complete his rehab with the Canucks.

Jay Beagle

Another NTC and a contract way higher than market value. Beagle won't be bought out and not going to get traded. He’s also viewed as a locker room leader the team wants its youth to learn from.

Adam Gaudette

another year on his entry level deal the Canucks will be banking on the ‘Hockey Gaud’ to make strides in his second full year in the NHL.

Guillaume Brisebois

Super cheap rookie deal if the Canucks wheel and deal some other defensemen off the roster they will potentially look to Brisebois for big minutes.

Troy Stecher

The kid from Richmond is bringing back a silver medal from the world championships and showed great improvement each year in the league. Stecher will be a part of the Canucks leadership group.

Jake Virtanen

We’ve heard Virtanen’s name get thrown around in the Jason Zucker trade talk. While that seems to have cooled down Virtanen is probably the most valuable trade chip the team would be willing to deal.

Ben Hutton

A bounce back year a season ago has put Hutton back in coaches’ good books. However, his name is another one getting tossed around in trade rumours.

Brandon Sutter

Still a contributor when healthy but the team has a plethora of centres and with Gaudette manning the third line and Beagle taking the fourth it would look like the appropriate time to send Sutter to greener pastures his modified no trade clause will make a deal tricky but ice time could play a factor.

Chris Tanev

One year left on his deal, Tanev could be moved in a D for D trade. His health could hurt his value, however.

Tanner Pearson

Bo Horvat’s best winger a year ago will almost certainly be back next year. The only thing keeping him from the certain category is he could be a trade chip again.

Sven Baertschi

This one comes down to health. Baertschi could absolutely be back however any setbacks or concussion scares could force Sven into an early retirement.

Ryan Spooner

Spooner could very well follow in Sam Gagners footsteps and start next season in the American League but with only a year left on his deal and plenty of cap space, it wouldn't make sense to buy him out now.

Tyler Motte

An RFA, but played an outstanding grinding role for the Canucks Motte has earned a second contract from the team and I believe they give it to him.

Josh Leivo

Acquired for next to nothing Leivo could very well slot in the first line to start the season.

Nikolay Goldobin

Perhaps the biggest debate on this list. But with an RFA status and still only 23 years old I doubt the team would let Goldy walk for free.

Alex Biega

The Canucks couldn't ask for a better seventh defensemen than Biega. The bulldog grinds every shift he’s on the ice and it’s clear his game is respected by coach Green.

Josh Teves & Brogan Rafferty

The two college UFA’s from late last season deserve another look. While it would be doubtful either makes the team a season from now, they could both spend some time in Utica. The Canucks should tender them.

Unlikely

(Contract talks stalled, buy-outs, or on the trade block)

Alex Edler

Talks seem to be stuck on term and a no movement clause. The Canucks aren't willing to save Edler’s spot at the Seattle expansion and Edler doesn't want to go anywhere else. While he could return Edler will be given contract offers from other teams.

Tim Schaller

The Canucks are loaded at Left wing and Schaller’s production wasn't good enough in his lone season on the team. This seems like a price candidate to be bought out.

Loui Eriksson

It feels like the Lucic-Eriksson or a deal of that nature is imminent. Eriksson appears to have worn out his welcome and the Canucks would rather a bad contract from someone who at least makes an effort on the ice. If they can't find a trade partner for Eriksson I would expect him to either be a healthy scratch every night or be placed in the minors.

Markus Granlund

One too many centres makes the Granimal the odd man out. After a 19-goal campaign in 16-17 Granlunds production has tailed off. a new start looks best for Granny.

Luke Schenn

The team reportedly hasn't begun talks with Schenns camp yet, and with interest in many of the leagues UFA’s there might not be a spot on the Canucks roster for him.

Gone

Derrick Pouliot

The Canucks have stated Pouliot’s contract will not be qualified and his time in Vancouver is over.
