THE ROUNDUP: Onward Without Elias, Gaud Blessed, And More

Matheson gets his punishment, Elias recovers and Beagle’s broken. This is all so Canucks...

CANUCKS NEWS: Now that the smoke has cleared, the focus can be on making sure Elias Pettersson makes a complete recovery from the concussion he suffered Saturday. He might miss as few as two games, but honestly I don’t see him being able to return for Saturday’s home tilt against the Bruins

And honestly I don’t see the point of rushing him back. It’s October. It’s not like we’ll be sitting around in April going “Oh, if only Elias had been in the Boston game we’d be in the playoffs!”, right? And let’s face it, after getting gooned in Florida, it’s not a sound decision to bring the kid back to have to deal with Brad Marchand.

Let’s see what there is for you to check out with your coffee this morning, hmm? Our pals over at Pensburgh have their game preview ready to go. They’re touting the matchup as their boys against ‘Brandon Sutter and the Canucks’, which a) sounds like the worst cover band ever and b) is a pretty accurate statement of what happens when a guy like Elias Pettersson isn’t in the lineup... The Province have their Game Day Report and a look at the week put forth by some of the Canucks prospects (Jett Woo content alert!)... Dinosaurs like Jeff O’Neill are just embarrassing, and this clip of from a TSN Radio Toronto show how the devotion to the code leads you to see things that aren’t there (like saying Pettersson had the puck, for example). The only joke here is these clowns... Tonight’s opponents have some injury woes of their own as they’ll be without Justin Schultz for a while after he fractured his leg... There’s a new Patcast, and Botch is fired up in this one... And if you want a great dissection of the incident, check out Daniel Carcillo’s take on it, start with this tweet

And with the need for reinforcements, Adam Gaudette gets the call from Utica. He’s been playing well for Trent Cull’s Comets so far this season, and while he’s slotting in to replace Jay Beagle, it will be interesting to see how the former Hobey Baker Trophy winner does with this call up...

AROUND THE LEAGUE: The Leafs continued to roll, as a 2 goal performance from Kasperi Kapanen led them to a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Auston Matthews joined a pretty elite group, becoming the fifth player to have multiple points in the first seven games of a season with his two assists. Garret Sparks made 33 saves, getting the start after Frederik Andersen was ruled out with a knee injury... The Red Wings are in full on tank mode early as they lost their 6th straight, dropping a 7-3 decision to Montreal. Former Wing Tomas Tatar had a goal and 2 assists for the Habs... Considering how bad they were supposed to be, the Ottawa Senators start to the season has to rank as one of the biggest surprises so far. They snagged their 3rd win of the season with a 4-1 victory against the Dallas Stars. Craig Anderson made 37 saves and Brady Tkachuk’s 3rd of the year was the GWG... Filip Forsberg had the winner as Nashville held off a pushback from the Minnesota Wild for a 4-2 win in Music City... It’s not like we needed to tell you this, but there’s something not right about the Chicago Blackhawks... And these are your NHL 3 Stars of the week...
