Arsenal have completed the signing of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, the Bundesliga club confirmed via twitter.

The German international penned five-year deal with the Gunners. Arsenal paid £22million for acquiring the services of Bernd Leno.

Leno said: ‘I enjoyed the time in Leverkusen from the first to the last day. I am very grateful for the fact that the club has already had the status of number 1 as a 19-year-old.

“After a fantastic seven years, I will now continue my journey in another very exciting league. But I am sure that we will meet again more often on an international level.”

Bernd Leno becomes Unai Emery’s second signing following the arrival Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.

Leverkusen sporting director Jonas Boldt said: “We brought Bernd in 2011 as a very young keeper and immediately gave him great responsibility. He has given us back this confidence in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Bernd has consistently performed well for our club over the years and has become a national player here. A great goalkeeper – we wish him all the best for the coming years at Arsenal.”

Unai Emery describes Brendt Leno as “goalkeeper with high quality and experience“.

Unai Emery described his excitement to work with Leno on club’s official website: “He has been a top performer and regular number one goalkeeper with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for the past seven years. We are all excited that Bernd has chosen Arsenal Football Club and look forward to start working with him in pre-season.”
