US, Santos Laguna's Jorge Villafana robbed of $20000 at gunpoint


United States international and Santos Laguna defender Jorge Villafana was robbed a day after the first leg of the Liga MX final, according to the authorities of the city of Torreon.


Villafana, who was accompanied by his wife, was intercepted by two men who threatened them with a firearm while they were leaving a currency exchange in a shopping center.


The assailants robbed the player of 400,000 pesos ($20,000), according to the report from the Police of Coahuila.


Natalia Perales/Getty Images The former Portland Timbers defender went first to an office at the mall in the south area of the city, in which the sum of money he needed to exchange wasn't available.


Villafana, who is playing in his third season at Santos Laguna, was a substitute during Thursday's 2-1 victory over Toluca.


The second match of the Liga MX final will be played on Sunday at Toluca.
