Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is interested in signing Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic as the midfielder reportedly wants out of the Los Blancos.
Just before the FIFA World Cup, Liverpool was buzzing regarding the news of Lyon’s Nabil Fekir agreeing on a deal to join the Merseyside club. However, after a problem with the Frenchman’s medical, Lyon decided against letting go of their captain. And the Reds are now looking at alternatives in the transfer market to still replace their former star playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic reportedly wants a move out of the Spanish capital. Kovacic has been unable to sustain his position as a regular at Madrid because Luka Modric, Isco, Casemiro and Toni Kroos are always pushing him further down the pecking order. This has reportedly caused the Croatian gem to look at a different club in order to play football as a starter. And Real Madrid has told Kovacic that he would be allowed to leave the club is he wants to do so.
If that is the case then Liverpool would surely be interested in making a bid for the out of favor midfielder as they are keen on bolstering their squad for next season. Liverpool has already strengthened their midfield department by adding Naby Keita and Fabinho but a failed deal for Fekir may be the reason why Liverpool should make a bid for Kovacic.
Madrid value Kovacic at a fee of around €50 million which is relatively cheaper than that of Fekir where Liverpool was paying in excess of €70 million. Admittedly, Fekir is already a proven star in the Ligue 1 but Kovacic is only 24 years of age and eager to prove his worth to the world.
Author’s take-
I don’t think that Kovacic would be useful to Liverpool because they have already signed Fabinho and Keita. With Henderson and Wijnaldum also in the squad, Kovacic may once again find too much competition for a starting berth at Anfield, if he does arrive at Liverpool.
