La Blaugrana is ready to step up their chase in order to sign Sevilla central defender Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window.
Lenglet has been one of the best defenders in the La Liga this season and his impressive outings with Sevilla have drawn interest from Barcelona. The Spanish champions are keen on re-enforcing their squad for next season’s Champions League trophy and have identified Lenglet as their prime target in the coming window.
Samuel Umtiti’s contract situation has brought up speculation of his future at the Camp Nou with Manchester United keen on luring the French defender to Old Trafford. Therefore, Barcelona is planning on stepping up their pursuit of Lenglet to replace the 24-year-old.
Inside News-
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Lenglet is being offered a contract extension by Sevilla in order to keep him away from the clutches of heavy suitors. The 22-year-old defender is set to meet with his club’s board in order to discuss new terms or else he will quit the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Barcelona has a slight void in the heart of their defence next season if Umtiti decides to leave the Catalonian side as Gerard Pique remains the only player who is guaranteed to be at the club for the start of next term.
Thomas Vermaelen and Yerri Mina’s futures remain uncertain at the club and the Frenchman has been identified as a potential choice for the next Barcelona arrival. However, Barcelona needs to act quickly if Lenglet refuses to pen a new deal with Sevilla as he is currently worth a fee of €35 million in July and €40 million in August.
Author’s Take-
Lenglet has been really solid for Sevilla and quite frankly he deserves to play for a bigger club. Even if Barcelona don’t sign him quickly, they should make sure they complete a deal for the Frenchman in order to maintain a strong backline.
