PSG pull out of race for Champions League winning manager believing him to be Chelsea bound

The Parisians have dropped their interest in Luis Enrique believing that the former Roma boss is on his way to Chelsea

Unai Emery’s time at Parc des Princes is coming to an end soon. After a demoralising defeat to Real Madrid, PSG will turn to another manager in their hunt for European glory. Luis Enrique seemed to be their top priority but reports coming out of France are claiming that PSG has dropped their interest in the treble winner.

French newspaper Le Parisien is reporting that the Spanish coach has been ruled out for the top job. The report states that the possible reason behind this is that Enrique is close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea to take over from Antonio Conte.

Chelsea bound Enrique?

Chelsea, meanwhile, seems to have succeeded in their pursuit of Luis Enrique. He had long been mooted as a replacement for Antonio Conte whose relationship with the club board has soured a lot over the course of this season.

Along with Enrique, another name on PSG’s wishlist is that of their former manager Carlo Ancelotti. The ex-Milan manager left Paris for Madrid where he secured the elusive La Decima. Le Parisian says that PSG stalwarts Marco Verratti and Thiago Silva phoned Ancelotti to convince him to return to the club. His decision, however, is uncertain as of yet.

Ancelotti wanted back by his former players…

Along with the aforementioned duo, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and former Man City boss Roberto Mancini are also on PSG’s shortlist, while bringing in Antonio Conte has also been considered. Other less likely names linked with the job are Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone, Jurgen Klopp and Maurizio Sarri. Neither will be easy to lure away from their current jobs, however.

Author’s Take

Chelsea has been courting Luis Enrique for a long time now. Currently, on his self-imposed one-year sabbatical, Enrique has been on the shortlisted by Arsenal as well. It’ll be interesting to see where the in-demand manager ends up.
