Chelsea’s prime target doesn’t want to replace Antonio Conte

Chelsea’s main target to replace current manager Antonio Conte is ready to pull the plug on a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Conte’s arrival at Chelsea last season was met with rejoicing and a possible hope, after a rather Mourinho esque year under Jose Mourinho. The former Real Madrid manager had arrived for his second tenure with the Blues and having won the title, then promptly the very next season decided to cause hell at the club with Chelsea finishing a record low for a defending champion at 10th.

However, while Antonio Conte did breathe in hope into a dismissal and stagnant Chelsea team, leading them to a Premier League title in his debut season, this season has seen things change. The Italian boss has had a massive disagreement with the Chelsea board regarding transfers and even the transfer budget, calling them out publicly on numerous occasions.

Which is why the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique and even Diego Simone have all been linked with a potential move as the next manager, replacing Antonio Conte at the end of this season. The Italian manager has insisted that he is very happy at the club, but rumors and reports have said that there is little chance that Conte will continue after the current season, despite his contract ending in 2019.

But according to the Daily Star [via the Metro], prime candidate Luis Enrique is ready to pull the plug on any potential move to Chelsea, mainly thanks to Roman Abramovich. The Russian oligarch has been very volatile with his managers sacking more than required, including the likes of Jose Mourinho(twice), Claudio Ranieri, Rafael Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti among others.

It further adds that the former Barcelona boss is waiting on news about Arsene Wenger’s potential departure from Premier League Giants Arsenal, with the Frenchman’s long tenure at the club slowly winding down. But with Arsenal struggling to keep up with the Premier League’s top five this season, there are reports that the three-time Premier League winning manager could be sacked if the Gunners don’t make a Champions League qualification.

Author’s take:

Luis Enrique would be a brilliant addition to both Chelsea and Arsenal, especially given his managerial style and tactics. However, with PSG also looking for a brand new boss, unhappy with Unai Emery’s performances in the Champions League, the Premier League giants have competition.
