Fantasy Premier League – GW5 Review

Bournemouth 2-1 Brighton

The Cherries got their first win of the season against Brighton in the Friday night fixture. Jermain Defoe scored his first goal of the season while Jordon Ibe was impressive from the bench providing both assists.

Eddie Howe’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet this season and with a tricky run of fixtures ahead, it’s best to avoid the likes Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake for now.

Pascal Groß delivered again for his owners, registering an assist. He looks a good option in midfield.

Goalscorers: Surman, Defoe, March

Assists: Ibe (2), Groß

Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

The Saints picked up their 3rd clean sheet in five matches against Palace who are yet to score a goal this season!

Relegation looks likely for the Londoners even at this early stage of the season. Avoid Palace players until they show signs of improvement under Roy Hodgson (if it happens). Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the only Palace player worth consideration at the moment. Its hard to tell whether its Christian Benteke or his brother Jonathan playing up front! Maybe they released Christian at the end of last season by mistake? If so, he’s now playing in Cyprus!

Southampton are struggling to score goals but its worth investing in their defence/goalkeeper with a kind run of fixtures coming up after Man United in GW6. Be wary of Maya Yoshida who is likely to lose his place to Virgil van Dijk soon.

Manolo Gabbiadini was benched for this one in favour of Shane Long. They need to get Charlie Austin fit and playing!

Goalscorer: Davis

Yellow Cards: Dann, Ward, Puncheon, McArthur, Cabaye, Long

Huddersfield 1-1 Leicester

Not an awful lot to report in this one. Belgian striker Laurent Depoitre started ahead of the injured Steve Mounie and got himself on the score sheet while Jamie Vardy scored his 4th goal in 5 games from the spot. He is doubtful for GW6 however. Kelechi Iheanacho started the game and played for 68 minutes.

Goalscorers: Depoitre, Vardy

Assists: Sabiri, King

Yellow Cards: Schindler, Okazaki

Liverpool 1-1 Burnley

The Clarets remain unbeaten away from home after another solid performance to come away from Anfield with a point. Scott Arfield took his goal well in only his 2nd start of the season. Nick Pope played well in goal deputising for the injured Tom Heaton while Ben Mee was unlucky not to get himself on the score sheet. Robbie Brady got his 2nd assist of the season and he’ll get plenty more from his set piece deliveries.

Liverpool tend to struggle when Sadio Mane is not in the team. So much of their attacking play goes through him. Mohamed Salah now has 3 goals in his opening 5 league matches and he remains an excellent FPL option.

Goalscorers: Salah, Arfield

Assists: Can, Brady

Yellow Cards: Can, Cork, Pope

Newcastle 2-1 Stoke

Matt Ritchie was the star of the show in this one providing both assists to send Newcastle on their way to another three points. He now has four assists in his last three games. He’s a great midfield option for your Sportito XI for GW6. Centre back Jamaal Lascelles is a big threat from set pieces and now has 2 goals in his last 2 matches. Josulu had a shocker up front, he could’ve had a hat trick!

Shaqiri did what Shaqiri does best – scoring from the edge of the box. He just needs to do it more consistently and remain injury free before fantasy managers draft him in to their lineups.

Goalscorers: Lascelles, Atsu, Shaqiri

Assists: Ritchie (2), Allen

Yellow Cards: Clark, Merino, Hayden, Wimmer

Watford 0-6 Man City

City are on fire, they’ve scored 15 goals in their last three matches including the European tie against Feyenoord.

Sergio Aguero is the man of the moment after bagging a hat trick as well as getting an assist. He’s now got 5 goals in 5 games. The questions remain though, will Pep start him every week? Is he worth the investment? Gabriel Jesus notched his 4th goal in three games and he’s another we have to consider. In Sportito, you don’t have to worry about a budget, so you can include both of them for this weekends mauling of Crystal Palace!

David Silva registered his 4th assist of the season while Kevin De Bruyne continued to troll with his 3rd. When Raheem Sterling starts, he’s dangerous. He’s already on 3 goals for the season. Nicolas Otamendi looks a viable option after notching his first goal of the season while Kyle Walker now has back to back assists and clean sheets!

Goalscorers: Aguero (3), Otamendi, Sterling, Jesus

Assists: D.Silva (2), De Bruyne, Walker, Aguero

Yellow Cards: Holebas, Doucoure

West Brom 0-0 West Ham

A typical Tony Pulis result. Andy Carroll has now played two league games without picking up an injury, can he make it three?

Yellow Cards: Foster, McClean, Zabaleta, Antonio

Tottenham 0-0 Swansea

The Swans frustrated Spurs at Wembley, defending resolutely to shut them out. Lukasz Fabianski was superb in goal again. Tom Carroll played 90 minutes and remains a good option. Wilfried Bony continued to build his match fitness playing for just 18 minutes.

Harry Kane hit the bar and he should have had the opportunity to take at least one penalty in the game, the referee turned down a few strong appeals from Spurs. Owners of Ben Davies were left frustrated as he didn’t play any part in the match having picked up a knock against Dortmund in the Champions League. He missed out on the clean sheet points!

Yellow Cards: Alderweireld, van der Hoorn, Routledge, Carroll

Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal put in one of their better performances of the season against the champions. Alexis Sanchez again had to be content with a place on the bench. Mesut Ozil wasn’t in the match day squad. Eden Hazard started on the bench for the Blues as he gradually returns from injury.

Defenders & goalkeepers were the winners in this one with clean sheets all round (apart from David Luiz who was sent off). Owners of Alvaro Morata and Alexandre Lacazette were left disappointed.

Yellow Cards: Morata, Elneny, Bellerin, Kolasinac

Red Card: David Luiz

Man United 4-0 Everton

United produced their 3rd 4-0 victory of the season, with most of the goals coming late in the game. Mkhitaryan got his first of the season while Romelu Lukaku made his Fantasy Premier League owners sweat but in the end got a goal and added an assist late on. Antonio Valencia scored a contender for goal of the season and got the clean sheet points as well. Martial again came off the bench to score his 3rd Premier League goal of the season from the spot.

Big things were expected of Everton after all the signings they made in the summer. They’re really struggling and now sit in the relegation zone in 18th place. Avoid.

Goalscorers: Martial, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan, Valencia

Assists: Matic, Lingard, Lukaku

Yellow Cards: Bailly, Williams
