Top 10 Fantasy Premier League Defenders of 2016

Premier League defenders are notorious for making errors. It’s been a long time since a PL defender made it onto the world XI list. That doesn’t look set to change anytime soon, but at least there are some defenders that bring joy to our faces, or better yet, they bring points to our Fantasy Premier League teams.
We’ll be looking at the best fantasy premier league defenders in the league this season;

Ben Gibson
Ben Gibson has proven to be one of Middlesbrough’s most influential players this season. With a PPG of 3.7, he’s certainly one of the best fantasy premier league defenders.
He’s also garnered a reputation for himself as a reliable and responsible midfielder. His performances have attracted some interest from the league’s top sides but Boro aren’t too keen on letting their main defender go.

Nathaniel Clyne
The England international has played a key role in Liverpool’s uprising and he looks set to continue to provide defensive stability as well as attacking support on the flanks thanks to his pace and crossing ability.
Like Gibson, he’s got an average of 3.7 points per game and he may very well increase that tally as the season progresses.

Steve Cook
Steve Cook, has been amongst the goals for Bournemouth this season having gotten his name on the scoresheet twice. Win a 3.7 PPG average, he’s earned his place on the list.

Laurent Koscielny
Koscielny has been an important member of Arsenal’s back-four this season as he’s taken up somewhat of a leadership role in the backline. Alongside Shkodran Mustafi, he’s helped bring stability to Arsenal’s defence amongst other things.
His points per game stand at 3.9, which more or less highlight his importance to Arsene Wenger’s side as well as DFS players around the world.

Virgil Van Dijk
Van Dijk is a household name in the Premier League as he’s been lauded as one of the League’s best centre-halves. Capable of controlling the tempo of games and moving into midfield, Van Dijk’s tactical flexibility is one of his key attributes.
He’s got the ability to put a stop to incoming attacks and to organise a back-four, those traits have helped him amass 3.9 points per game this season.

Charlie Daniels
Bournemouth skipper Charlie Daniels has averaged 4.2 points per game this season – his goal scoring prowess has helped the Cherries stay out of the relegation zone, he’s also giving DFS players a reason to smile every week.

Kyle Walker
Kyle Walker is arguably one of the best full-backs in the Premier League. He’s been consistent over the past couple of seasons, including this one as he has averaged 4.7 points per game this season.
His blistering pace, eye for a pass and his crossing ability will surely see him improve his PPG over the next few weeks.

Gary Cahill
Cahill has been a rock in the heart of Chelsea’s defence all season long as he’s started every league game for the Blues this term. He’s part of the reason Antonio Conte’s men currently sit atop the league table and it’s all down to his wit, determination and defensive instincts. He’s one of the best Premier League defenders at the moment.
His average points per game are 4.9 and with more clean sheets looming there’s no reason why Cahill can’t build on that tally.

Cesar Azpilicueta
Another player makes it onto our list, one who never ceases to impress. Azpilicueta has played every minute of Premier League football for Chelsea – that stat shows just how imperative Azpilicueta is to Chelsea’s success.
Having averaged 5.2 points per game, he’s the second best defender on our list.

Marcos Alonso
One goal and two assists have seen Marcos Alonso garner some FPL good points this season which amounts to him having 6.6 points per game, the highest of any Premier League defender which speaks volumes of his worth in any fantasy team.
Marcos Alonso should be the first defender on your mind when picking your DFS team as he’s the best fantasy premier league defenders.
