Sing and be merry was the theme in this original December 17, 1974 Sporting News press photo of Don Sutton with some young fans at the Dodgers annual Christmas party. (eBay link) Per the descriptor on the reverse:
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Don Sutton and Santa Claus lead youngsters in a singing of Christmas carols at the Dodgers' annual party for children on Tuesday at the Stadium Club. More than 200 youngsters were in attendance and Dodger players in attendance included Sutton, Ron Cey, Al Downing, Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes and Steve Yeager.
Those kids in the photo are likely at or near their 50's today. Does anyone recognize themselves? Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1913 Wilbert "Uncle Robbie" Robinson is named the new Brooklyn Dodgers skipper. He would compile a 1375-1341 (.506) record in Brooklyn during his 18-year Hall of Fame career.
  • Happy Birthday, Sam PostLew McCartyGeorge Stallings & Brad Havens!
  • Per Jenna Chandler at LA Curbed; "The place where Jackie Robinson grew up is for sale in Pasadena for $650K."
  • He wrote, "I Love LA!" Per Jay Cridlin at the Tampa Bay Times; "Randy Newman will never be a million-seller, and he’s fine with that."
Q: Sorry about the Dodgers and the World Series. They’ll be back, I’m sure.
A: They’ll be back, but Houston will be back there with them.
Q: What’s the best perk of having an unofficial sports anthem in your catalog?
A: I went to a few ball games this year, and they won, and they’d play it at the end, and people are smiling and saying hello to me. It’s pretty nice. And surprising. Same thing is true with Disneyland — I took my granddaughter, and I’m all over the place there. It’s so odd, because the bulk of my stuff is not in the middle of the road. For me to be at Disneyland is a little odd.
  • ICYMI: Per Eric Stephen at True Blue LA; "Justin Turner 8th, Cody Bellinger 9th in NL MVP voting: Jansen, Kershaw, Seager also received votes."
  • Per Eric Newman at MLB.com; "Dodgers' Smith, Desert Dogs stay hot in AFL."
Will Smith set the tone early Wednesday, validating why he's the Los Angeles Dodgers' No. 8 prospect.
His three-run shot in the first inning helped the Glendale Desert Dogs stretch their late-season winning streak to six games and beat the Salt River Rafters, 5-4, to stay in the Arizona Fall League playoff picture.
"It definitely gives me confidence that I can compete at this level, and hopefully keep it rolling into Spring Training," Smith said.
  • Here's some Stanton gossip. Per TMZ; "Lexy Panterra Wants Giancarlo Stanton in LA... Dodgers' Secret Weapon?"
L.A. fans might just have an ace in the hole to get Giancarlo Stanton in Dodger Blue -- his rumored GF, singer Lexy Panterra.
There are big-time rumors that the Dodgers are eyeing Stanton via trade, and when we got Panterra out at Warwick we asked her what she thought of the idea of the slugger in Tinseltown.
"I think that'd be a great idea. He'd be closer!!!"
  • John Sickels at Minor League Ball shares his, "Los Angeles Dodgers Top 20 prospects for 2018."
