How to Copy PowerPoint Slides into Word

PowerPoint presentations are often saved as PDF because PDF file format can be easily transferred to different devices without altering the document layout. In addition to converting PPT slides to PDF, sometimes you need to turn your Powerpoint file to Word. Word documents are a better solution when you have long textual content. You can insert in Word document anything you need- a picture, a PDF file, and other objects, including PowerPoint slides. So, if you need to include a PowerPoint presentation in your work, here’s how to Copy Powerpoint Slides into Word.

Copy the whole PPT slide or certain objects of the slide

The easiest way to copy PowerPoint slides into Word is to save the slide as an image (PNG, JPG file) and insert image into Word.

To save a slide as an image, just click on the preferred slide and go to the File menu and then Save as. Choose the location where you want to save your PowerPoint slide, in the File name field check the name. In the Save as type field find the image format (JPEG, PNG).

When you click the Save button, click on Just This Once and the slide you have previously selected will be saved to JPEG or PNG.

If you don’t want the whole slide to copy to Word, you can copy only certain parts of it. Click on the object with the left mouse button and then with the right click activate additional options.

Save as Picture is the option you need to click copy a certain part of PowerPoint slide to Word.

Lastly, insert an image of the slide into Word: Insert > Pictures.

Copy and Paste PowerPoint Slide into Word

You are probably familiar with this copy and paste option: CTRL+C and then CTRL+V

The same way you copy text you can with slides. Right click on the slide and choose Copy option or simple select the slide and press these keys.

Open a Word document, click on the area where you want to insert a slide and paste it.

Insert PowerPoint into Word

If you want to include the whole PowerPoint presentation in a Word document, click the Insert menu, then Object and go to Create from file tab.

Click on the Browse button to find the PowerPoint presentation you want to insert into Word.

There are two options, to link to the file or to display your presentation as an icon.

Send PowerPoint to Word

Again, start clicking on the File menu and then on Export. The next step is Create Handouts button.

In the image above, you can see what are the page layout options when you send PowerPoint slide to Word. Here is what every option means:

Notes next to slides: the slide is minimized and shown on the left whereas the additional notes of the slide are on the right. With this option you will get a small version of the slide but the notes will be easy to read. This option is good when you need to print a document and deliver a presentation.

Blank lines next to slides: if you are presenting something and your audience has the copy of your presentation, this is the best option to use. In this way, they will have a minimized version of the slide on one side and the lines for taking notes and leaving comments, on the other.

Notes below slides: this is like the first option, but the notes are under the slides.

Blank lines below slides: similar to the second option, empty lines are for leaving comments or notes, and there are placed under the slides.

Outline only: this option is good when you want to edit a presentation. It doesn’t show graphics, only text.
