My Friend Jesus – The Gospel for Kids {Giveaway}

I’ve had lots of proud moments as a mom. Two of my most meaningful have been the moment my Children learned to read (as a homeschooling mom this is HUGE), and the moment each of my children accepted Christ as their Savior. No words can express the joy I felt when I heard their sweet prayer, and experienced the moment they accepted the gift only He can give. Unlike adults who often accept Christ in a dramatic life changing fashion, it’s been my experience that children tend to work up to this decision. It’s something they grow closer and closer to with each Sunday school lesson, and each nightly prayer.

When you have a little one (or older one) that is nearing this milestone of the Christian life, they usually start asking a lot of questions. Why did Jesus die on the cross? Why were the people so mean to him? Where do we go when we die? Are there dogs in Heaven? I was really excited to snag a peek at the new book from author Kathryn Slattery and Tommy Nelson called My Friend Jesus: The Gospel for Kids, because it is perfect for this particular phase of question asking! My Friend Jesus introduces children to the gospel, the story of Jesus, in easy to understand, age-appropriate words. From birth to death, it follows our Savior’s life and explains to children His importance to us as Christians today.

Jesus can be your friend and Savior.

All Christian parents want their children to come to a relationship with Jesus. My Friend Jesus is written in fresh, clear language that children can understand and is appropriate for all denominations. The book not only tells the gospel story about Jesus, but also, in the most natural, gentle way, introduces children to a personal relationship with Him. A prayer at the end of the book guides children into that life-changing friendship with Jesus. This is the book author Kathryn Slattery wishes she had when her own children were young—which is the reason she wrote it!

Originally published as The Gospel for Kids, this book sold more than 100,000 copies.

With gorgeous illustrations by Alida Massari, My Friend Jesus is not only the story of Jesus’ life, but also an introduction to His desire to be a important part of your child’s life. I really love how Jesus is described as their friend, as a real God with a real desire to love them and care for them. It’s a lesson that is hard to remember sometimes as we travel through this often difficult life. I posted about this very topic yesterday, and this book embodies that characteristic of Jesus powerfully.

I especially loved the pages about Heaven. What lovely and comforting thoughts for a child!

Geared for ages 5-10, My Friend Jesus retails for $12.99 (hardcover, 32 pages). Click HERE to see a digital preview. Find more faith-based products like this for children and families online at www.tommynelson.com. Be sure to visit Tommy Nelson on Facebook, and follow @TommyNelson on Twitter!
