This Sunday marks the end to daylight savings time in the UK, at 2 am the clocks will all go back one hour. You know what that means, we all get an extra hour in bed!  But, it also means the days will be getting a lot shorter and winter is on the way! Of course, it can be a little confusing on Sunday morning when you wake up and have to work out whether your clocks have updated automatically, or if you have to manually change them. For our computers and smartphones this shouldn’t’ be an issue, however, anything else will need to be changed.

Why do the clocks go back?

This is an excellent time to teach your kids about daylight savings time, this is when the clocks are put forward an hour in the spring so that the daylight lasts longer in the evenings in summer months. However, as it draws closer to winter the mornings begin to get darker this is why in October it’s time to turn back time one hour giving us more sunlight in the mornings! This makes for a safer journey to work/school and helps save energy by making use of natural light.

Get your children involved…

This is also a great opportunity to start teaching your child how to tell the time. Get them to help you change the clocks and watches and make learning fun! Rather than feeling like they are in a lesson, it will be an exciting way of learning to tell time.
