Work Boots Tutorial – What To Look For In A Good Work Boot

Whether someone is a welder or mechanic or works on a construction site, they will all need a work boot of some shape and form, but with so many to choose from… how the hell do you start to pick what’s right for the type of job you work in? Today, I will give you an insight into some awesome information that will really help you choose the perfect work boot!

Depending on what job you have you may need work boots and one of the main reasons that people in most of the trades need these expensive boots is for safety (Check out our work boot guide for the best safety boots here). For example in a Heavy Duty Mechanics shop, there are so many heavy things that can fall and of course they could easily break your feet, then how would you work? There are many hazards in each of these jobs that require work boots… so hence the need for them.

“NOT ALL WORKBOOTS ARE MADE EQUAL…LET’S FIND OUT SOME KEY INFORMATION YOU NEED TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT”.

Ok, so the first thing you will need to consider when buying a good pair of work boots is what environment and work setting do you actually work in? For example:-

====> Heavy duty mechanics need strong steel toes and warmth for the winter months (E.G Canada).

====> Construction workers need a higher boot with deep thread because of all the mud and water they encounter.

====> Welders need boots that are more fire conscious and safe.

====> Train yard workers need a heavy, durable boot as they encounter many objects on a daily basis.

Ok, there is just some examples of what type of work boots you would benefit from working in the different kinds of trades. Next, you will want to consider what Tread pattern the boots have. Believe it or not the tread pattern definitely makes a difference.

Some Tread Patterns have a very complex design and some tread patterns are a lot simpler. There are tread patterns that work well with ice and snow and then there are ones which work very well with mud. Its such as simple thing to take note off, but just like tire treads they all have different patterns for a reason.

Another thing that you will need to take note of and research is the type of material that has been used for the toe end. Different manufactures use different materials which range from steel to aluminium. Of course there is the fact of weight difference and then there is stress under load.

  1. For example steel is very strong but this can make the material heavy.
  2. Then aluminumin is still quite strong but it weighs a lot less, but does it give the right protection?

DEFINATELY some key things to consider there!
