Marvel Movie Projects Currently in Development

It cannot be argued. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the greatest thing pop culture has given us... and they’re selling like hotcakes. The worldwide box office tells a very compelling story of how MCU is nothing short of impressive. Moreover, the future is looking bright for Marvel, with a slew of upcoming films already scheduled for release.

It’s easy to lose track and stay in the know with Marvel Studios firing movies and TV shows here and there. We don’t want you to miss out on anything that is Marvel, so we’ve gathered the projects that Marvel Studios has been currently working on.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5)

Marvel’s second attempt to greatness this 2017 is the sequel of the 2014 surprise hit  Guardians of the Galaxy. We will see the continuation of Star Lord’s adventures in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

We’re not totally sure what Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and friends’ quest will be all about, but we know that parts of it will be about uncovering the identity of his father and making allies out of old enemies. We bet that the sci-fi sequel will bear similarities from the first movie, promising us of more hilarious antics from its colourful cast of characters.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7)

This is probably one of the most high-profile franchises of all time, considering that it has been rebooted thrice! We had come to love the first  Spider-Man films because they were our first taste of the web-slinger in live action backed up by a big studio production. So when the franchise was rebooted in 2012, the audience had mixed feelings. It got even worse when a scandal involving Sony executives killed the franchise, or so we thought.

When Tom Holland rebooted Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War last year, the world realised they still need more of the friendly-neighbourhood hero all over again. Now, Spider-Man is back in a solo film where we witness Peter as a high school student, having a hard time coming to terms with his new identity as Spider-Man. Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man will have Spidey under his wings as they will be battling against The Vulture (Michael Keaton) and The Tinkerer.

Thor: Ragnarok (November 3)

The God of Thunder is back fighting against gods and other powerful beings, this time without his hammer, Mjolnir. Exiled into the outer planet of Sakaar, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will find himself having a new haircut and facing a familiar but not so friendly face in the person of The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

We can’t contain our excitement as we see Thor outside his comfort zone and enter a world much like the one in the Guardians of the Galaxy. Not only that, but based on the trailers, the new Thor instalment promises a lot of laughs just like the Team Thor shorts that Taika Waititi also directed.

We will also see a new set of characters, such as Hela (Cate Blanchett), the goddess of death and the underworld and the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), the ruler and host of gladiator battles in Sakaar.

Black Panther (February 16, 2018)

DC will be giving us, for the first time, a woman-led superhero film. Well, Marvel has answered that with its first black-led superhero movie, Black Panther (check our Black Panther Pop!  here).

Black Panther is one of Marvel’s most popular characters and it’s about damn time the studio acknowledge him by bringing the world of Wakanda to life.

Ryan Coogler, the man behind 2015’s critically-acclaimed movie Creed, will direct the film. Actor Chadwick Boseman will return to reprise his role as T’Challa of Wakanda, a.k.a. the Black Panther. The character was first introduced to moviegoers in Captain America: Civil War as part of Iron Man’s team. He’s also expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War.

Michael B. Jordan will be joining the cast as Erik Killmonger, an Exiled Wakandian who will be returning to their home to fight against T’Challa for control over Wakandia.

Avengers: Infinity War (May 4, 2018)

If you think Captain America: Civil War got the most number of superheroes in a film, you might want to check out Avengers: Infinity War. Infinity War will have the largest cast of any Marvel film yet. Expect all of the original Avengers to appear, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Antman, Black Panther, and of course, Thanos.

The film will follow Thanos’ quest for power as the Avengers pick themselves up after the debacle in Civil War.

With a large cast in the movie, it’s almost expected that Infinity War will be the biggest superhero film of 2018. It might even be the biggest blockbuster hit of that same year.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6, 2018)

Another summer blockbuster due in 2018 will grace theatres worldwide with the  Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Despite lesser-known protagonists, Ant-Man still gained the audience’s favour, raking an impressive $519 million worldwide in 2015. We could attribute its success to timing, as Ant-man was released just two months after Avengers: Age of Ultron. Not only that, but people are all praises to the comedic chops and performance of Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, and Michael Douglas.

Following the post-Avengers formula, Ant-Man and the Wasp will also be released two months after Avengers: Infinity War.

In the next Ant-Man film, we will see Evangeline Lily suit up as the flying Wasp, fighting new enemies alongside Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. Michael Peña will also reprise his role in the sequel.

Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019)

If DC has Wonder Woman, Marvel also has  Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers, a.k.a Captain Marvel will first appear in Avengers: Infinity War before playing the lead role in her solo film in 2019. Brie Larson will play the titular character, though not much has been revealed about the casting or her character in the set of Infinity War.

Screenwriters are still working on Captain Marvel’s script, so it might take a while before we get more information on the film. Not to worry though, we still have two years to wait.

Avengers 4 (May 3, 2019)

It’s the final Avengers film, and this may be the biggest superhero film of all time. Everything that Marvel has been working for since the first Iron Man in 2008 is in the movie.

Of course, Avengers 4 is just a working title. It used to be called Avengers: Infinity War- Part 2, but it was changed due to the fact that it’s not really a direct sequel to the previous Avengers film. Rumor has it that the last Avengers film has an insanely high budget of $1, 000, 000, 000, making it the most expensive filming budget of all time.

The burning question now is what will happen to our beloved characters once the curtains close? Marvel hasn’t given us a clue yet. So for now, let’s just relax, sit back, and enjoy what’s to come.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel (July 5, 2019)

Spidey fans can take comfort in knowing that Spider-Man: Homecoming has, indeed, a sequel. It’s currently scheduled to be released in 2019, after Avengers 4. There’s not much information on the plot yet as the film is still in its pre-development stage. One thing we know for now is that the sequel, much like the first, will follow Peter Parker through his high school and webslinging career.

Let us know which Marvel Cinematic Universe film are you most excited for!
