The Dos and Don'ts of Wearing and Buying Lingerie

Lingerie is downright beautiful, but it can also be downright terrifying. For some, it takes the world of undergarments to a completely unexplored place. Garter belts? Teddies? Baby Dolls? Chemises? Yes, there is way more to educate yourself on than simply bras and underwear. Since there's always cause for celebration, we figured some of you might be considering slipping into something a little lacy in the coming week, and we want to be sure you do it with complete confidence.

So where do we begin? How about and introduction to what the different styles are and how to find them.

Fantasy Wear

Lingerie is made to make you feel sexy. The best way to start any outfit is with great underwear; you always feel sexier when you have a pretty pair of panties or a thong on under your clothes. Fancy fulfilling your secret fantasy? Our growing collection of role play and fantasy dress up lingerie costumes will help you do just that. Whether it be that naughty nurse role play or playing the domineering police woman we have the outfit for you.

Teddies

A teddy, also called a camiknicker, is a garment which covers the torso and crotch in the one garment. It is a similar style of garment to a one-piece swimsuit or bodysuit, but is typically looser and more sheer.

Hosiery and Garter Belts

Hosiery, also referred to as legwear, describes garments worn directly on the feet and legs. The term originated as the collective term for products of which a maker or seller is termed a hosier; and those products are also known generically as hose.

A garter belt is a piece of lingerie that goes around someone’s waist. It is usually made of lace, but not always. The garter belt uses clips or snaps to hold up pantyhose or stockings. I can only imagine that the garter belt started back in the days before elastic when holding up stockings what a lot harder and thus anchoring it around the waist made the most sense. Over time, I think we can all agree that garter belts have grown into a sexy symbol of femininity and not really all that useful.

Baby Dolls

A baby doll is a short, sometimes sleeveless, loose-fitting nightgown or negligee, intended as nightwear for women. It sometimes has formed cups called a bralette for cleavage with an attached, loose-fitting skirt falling in length usually between the belly button and upper thigh.

Bodystockings

A bodystocking is a one-piece skin-tight garment that covers the torso, legs and sometimes the arms of the wearer. It is a foundation garment or an article of lingerie usually made from a sheer fabric similar to that used for stockings or pantyhose, or from fishnet, lace or an opaque material, or a variation of these materials. A bodystocking differs from a unitard, which is worn as an outfit or article of clothing, and a leotard, which is used as a practice garment or performance costume for acrobats, gymnasts and other similar performers.

Lingerie is the first thing you put on in the morning; you need to love it. And in order to love it, you need to look great in it and know you look great in it. That comes from fit and style, but also attachment to certain pieces. It begins with loving what you're wearing. I promise the right lingerie set—one you love—will make you taller.

Don't forget that lingerie is FOR YOU. Purchase and wear only the styles that make you feel incredible.
