But all that changed when he walked up on the stage to accept the Steve Chase Humanitarian Award from the Desert AIDS Project. In his acceptance speech, he thanked his partner Simon Halls and their three children – “Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is,” he said. It is ironic that people like Bomer in the early 1980s helped spread this dreadful disease.
