The Winners of the #BrandBowl

There is no other day like Superbowl Sunday for marketers and this year’s was no different as we gathered around the TV (and now computers, tablets, & mobile phones) to watch and judge the most expensive commercials of the year.

Using Postano Hashtag Analytics, we tracked the Hashtags of every commercial and graphed the total posts from user-generated content of the 15 most popular ones. Below that featured the total number of impressions the hashtags of the commercials created as well as the top influencers for each hashtag.

#AvosinSpace Suprises

One of the breakout ads that was a surprising strong performer on Social Media was Avocados from Mexico’s #AvosFromSpace hashtag that was the leading BrandBowl hashtag in the days up to the Superbowl and through the first quarter.

The campaign had former football player Tim Tebow as a spokesperson and leveraged his large social following on Twitter and Instagram to draw interest and engagement in the campaign.

#EsuranceSweepstakes wins big

The big winner of the #BrandBowl was Esurance and their #esurancesweepstakes that gave out $1 million to 17 people who used their hashtag. The hashtag was used over 99,000 times with 1.5 million retweets resulting in 787 million overall impressions on Twitter and Instagram.

No person will turn down free money, but some demographics were more eager to participate in the hashtag campaign than others. 66% of the people who used the hashtag were women and 53% were under the age of 34 according to StatSocial demographics data provided in Hashtag Analytics.
