How to Repurpose Your Content for Social Media

High-quality content is the key to boosting SEO, driving traffic and creating leads. The problem is that a lot of time and effort is spent creating it.

Do you want to get the most out of your content? If so, repurposing your content is the answer.

Repurposing content is simply reusing the content again in another format. The great thing about repurposing is that it allows you to achieve the maximum possible effect from that same piece of content.

Repurposing also allows you to increase your Social reach by appealing to people who might prefer a different type of content. It’s also a lifesaver when you don’t have the time to generate another blog post or article that week.

Here is how you can repurpose your content for Social Media.

Choose What Content to Repurpose

Just about any piece of content can be repurposed, whether the content performed well or not. But, just like anything you would recycle, you need to make sure it’s not ready for the trash bin first. Is it quality content? If so, you’re off to a good start.

Next, determine whether or not the piece of content fits into the evergreen category. Evergreen content is content that isn’t outdated and therefore no longer useful. You wouldn’t want to create an Infographic about the Best Social Media Tips of 2014 – that would be evergreen content.

1. Turn A Blog Post Into a Video

If you have not yet incorporated video into your marketing strategy, now is the time to consider doing so.

In fact, 85% of businesses are already producing video in-house. This has a lot to do with incredible numbers backing up video production. Consider, for example, that video marketers get 66% more qualified leads or increase their brand awareness by 54%.

There are ultimately many ways businesses can go about repurposing a blog post into a video.

The easiest way to approach this, however, especially for businesses that have yet to produce a lot of video content, would be to make a live video on a platform like Facebook Live or Instagram.

Live video is a great way to show the more human-side of your company, but a regular video is another option as well.

How-to blog posts, as well as blog posts that offer tips, are great for converting into video format.

Here is a look at some of the best ways to use Facebook Live.

2. Turn Content Into an Infographic

Infographics are still searched for 547,000 times a month and are as popular as ever.

Infographics also get 3X as many social shares.

Just about any piece of content that has some recent data in it can be turned into an infographic.

Contrary to popular belief, DIY infographics are easy to make with all of the infographic markers available today. Not only that, but they look professional, too. Canva is a great option.

Remember that an infographic should be as simple as possible in order to be effective. That means not overloading your infographic with too much text. A great infographic also has a clear focus and makes a point throughout.

Once you have the infographic made, post it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest. Just wait for all of the referral traffic you will get.

3. Republish Content

There are a lot of sites that will allow you to republish blog posts and expose your content to a much wider audience. The best part? It can be done in just a few steps. Typically, all you need to do is sign up for an account, copy and paste your article and then press publish.

Reddit is one such example, but Medium and GrowthHackers are a couple of others (GrowthHackers isn’t technically a social media platform, but gives you an idea of what’s out there).

4. Turn Statistics Into Twitter or Facebook Posts

Why not leverage all of the hard digging that went into gathering data into a Twitter or Facebook post?

Whether you wrote a roundup blog post on the most informative statistics on a given topic (5 Mind Blowing Social Media Statistics) or you simply mentioned an interesting piece of data in a regular blog post, turn it into a Facebook or Twitter post and get the most out of it.

For Facebook, all you need to do is take a small excerpt and post it to Facebook.

When it comes to Twitter, you can do this in a couple of different ways. Add a click to tweet link at the end of the statistic or upload a photo to Canva, apply a filter and then add the statistic in the text box.

The key with sharing images on social media, however, is that they should adhere to the recommended dimensions of the site. If the images are too big or too small, the image can look grainy.

5. Turn a Blog Post into an Audio Blog (or Podcast)

If you’ve created a longer piece of content, consider creating an audio blog to go along with it. That way, people can listen to it while on the go. All you need to do is get yourself a microphone and record yourself reading it.

Alternatively, if you currently have a podcast, you can record an episode on the same topic.

6. Turn Images Into a Pinterest Board or Instagram Post

If you have a few blog posts that have a lot of images, you can turn those images into a Pinterest board or an Instagram post, driving a lot of traffic back to your site.

The Bottom Line

Make your content work for you in more ways than one. All you have to do is repurpose it.
