My First Day in College

Introduction
College - a platform that aids to mellowness, personality enhancement, knowledge sharing and knowledge improvement- in short a path to your ultimate career. College life is the coolest phase in any youngster’s life as is the usual feel – mostly influenced by movies. But is that so? I ask you how you take this phase of your life – an opportunity to design a successful career or a chance to have fun and enjoyment! A smart and career oriented student would definitely take this phase very seriously but somebody who has no aspirations or dreams would pass out this time like a picnic and ultimately a life of more of failures less of successes. So, college is basically a beginning to a life of challenges and learning, the wise person sees both and mark the beginning to a bright future. What do you want in life depends entirely on your choice – only pleasure or learning with pleasure!
My First Day
My transition from school to college never seemed to be a very thrilling idea to me. It was a very natural thing which was bound to happen, so never really excited me as a teen-ager. My transition was very smooth and never really felt to be in a new environment except for the fact that now I was free from that “boring school dress” - Wow! The night before the d day, I was busy deciding my dress for the day. Finally I got my “dress of the day” – My favourite pink top with jeans and black footwear. Next morning, I got ready by 8 o’ clock and went to the bus stop. My few school friends also accompanied me. It was a mix feeling of joy with some fear of facing the new challenges but soon all this vanished, I reached my college. All new faces, new environment which was very cool and high spirited. Everyone was very cheerful and enthusiastic.
We moved to notice board to check out class room and daily schedule. It was room no. 4 (ground floor) near to the auditorium. I found my room very easily, entered my class room which was packed with approximately 80 girls. It was an experience to see so many girls as I was in co-ed all my school days. Soon, one lecturer entered the room in a very beautiful blue saree. She introduced herself as Mrs. Punam Parashar, M.Sc, Phd from Punjab University. She was our chemistry lecturer. We started our introduction and the period ended on that and thereafter, period after period we kept introducing ourselves to the lecturers. In the lunch break, after a long four hour gap, we got a chance to explore our college. First we all friends (four of us) went to the “canteen” – the religious place for all the freakier people, but we were actually hungry. After having our lunch we went to the class and started our first interaction with our class mates. We had a strength 0f 80 girls out of which 47 were hostellers who all were little uncomfortable in the hostel rooms as three girls were sharing one room. Soon came our fifth lecturer, he was our guide to the mystic world of physics. Oh God! He started his lecture on very first day. It was really boring to study on very first day of college but couldn’t help it. Thank god the period ended, we took a sigh of relief. I couldn’t believe this; sixth period was free as the lecturer was absent. We all were on the top of the world. Now, we had 45 minutes to chat with our new friends. They all were very good and nice natured girls. Now, I had 15 more new friends, isn’t great! We were busy in our discussions when suddenly the peon entered the room and announced that we all have to move to auditorium, Ms. Principal is going to address all the new students. We all picked our bags and moved to the auditorium like disciplined kids. It was a huge auditorium with a sitting capacity of 350 or more. Ms. Principal introduced herself as Veena Mayor, a smart lady in 50’s, looked stunning in grey saree. What a personality she had, very polite and pleasing. The session was a great experience, learnt about our institution’s history and some achievements so far.
Finally the day ended, a great day of my life. It would never come again but would always be a special part of my memories.
A day of learning, making new friends and finding a new meaning of life and of me as an individual – Was my first day of college to me!
