Galaxy S8: Samsung’s Latest Handset

Samsung Galaxy S8 is almost here

Who’s excited about the Samsung Galaxy S8 keynote happening later on today? Snatch Digital is!

As you’ve probably heard by now, Samsung will be unveiling the eagerly-anticipated Galaxy S8 tonight.

This particular model is the firm’s latest flagship smartphone, and one that needs to exceed the highest of expectations, riding the wave of the hardest scrutiny.

Let’s cast our minds back to the fiasco of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 where handsets were being recalled due to overheating and exploding batteries. Miraculously, this blunder wasn’t enough to stop us purchasing Samsung products.

According to reports, there was a 50% surge in sales from October-December 2016. That, in itself, is a blessing…

Samsung is well aware that there are plenty of videos & memes of “burned-to-a-crisp” or “exploding” handsets. They also know that well-known and highly respected technology reporters ripped the Note 7 to shreds. So, today’s grand unveiling is more crucial than ever if the South Korean firm wants to wipe the slate clean.

Kiranjeet Kaur of tech analysts IDC states: “with this launch, Samsung gets a chance to redeem itself after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco…but it may be too early to say that Samsung’s troubles are behind it now.”

Testers of the Samsung Galaxy S8 have praised its “stunning” design, mentioning that “nothing comes close” to it.

Trusted reviews says: “the curved back nestles perfectly in your palm, while the glass shimmers as light hits it. The three colours – a dark black, bright silver and a grey with a blueish tinge – are all subtle. There’s no ugly white front plate in sight.

Let’s get specs-y!

  • 8-inch quad-HD Infinity Display (AMOLED)
  • Samsung Exynos 8895 (Europe and Asia) or Qualcomm Snapdragon (USA)
  • 4GB RAM, 64GB storage (microSD up to 256GB)
  • 3000mAh battery with wireless and fast charging
  • Rear camera: 12 megapixels, f/1.7 aperture and dual-pixel sensor
  • Front camera: 8 megapixels, f/1.7 and autofocus
  • Iris and fingerprint scanner
  • Samsung Bixby personal assistant
  • Android 7 Nougat with Google Assistant

Although it’s a testing time for Samsung, we’re positive that they’re smart enough to get it right this time.
