Which is Better? Acrylic or Gel Nails

When it comes to getting their nails done, women have the option to get artificial Nail enhancements like acrylic or gel nails, which tend to be glossier than natural fingernails. There are many reasons why women may consider the application of false nails. For instance, they may want their fingernails to look more appealing and presentable for a special event or occasion, such as a reunion or a wedding. However, they often get confused about deciding whether they should get acrylic or gel nails.

What Are They?

Acrylic nail enhancements are brushed onto the nails, either covering each nail entire or just their tips, or at times they are sculpted to increase the length of the nails. Exposure to air causes the liquid acrylic mixture to harden.

Gel nail enhancements resemble nail polish, in terms of consistency. They are also brushed onto nails just like acrylic nail enhancements. However, in order to get gel nail enhancements “cured” or hardened, they have to be placed under ultraviolet (UV) light for at least 2 minutes.

Acrylic Nails Versus Gel Nails

  • Acrylic nails are may not look as natural as gel nails, especially if your aesthetician does not apply them correctly. Gel nails tend to look glossier and more natural, like nails that have been freshly manicured.
  • Usually, it is less expensive to get acrylic nails applied, while gel nails tend to cost almost twice as much as a typical manicure in most salons.
  • Unlike gel nails, acrylic nails last relatively far more than 14 days.
  • Acrylic nails will not damage your nail bed if your aesthetician properly applies the right quantity along with using primers. Allergic reactions can occur if the material comes into contact with your skin. On the other hand, your aesthetician will be able to apply gels nails both with and without a base or primer, and applying them correctly ensures that the nail bed does not get damaged.
  • The nail bed can get damaged and etched if acrylic nails with a primer are overused and not applied correctly. A fungal infection can occur if the acrylic nails are constantly exposed to water. The same is the case with gel nails.
  • It takes relatively more time for acrylic nails to get cured. It takes relatively lesser time to cure gel nails since they are cured either using a gel activator or under UV light.
  •  When it comes to the texture of the material, you will not have many choices if you decide to get acrylic nails applied. On the hand, you can choose from over 250 colors when getting gel nails applied.
  • Even if your aesthetician applies acrylic nails correctly, they will still be quite hard and robust. While the flexibility of gel nails cannot be compared to natural nails, but they still tend to be relatively flexible.

Conclusion

Ultimately, it is up to you whether you decide to get acrylic or gel nails. However, the above certainly seems to suggest that gel nail enhancements are relatively better since they cure quickly, do not cause any damage and do not need to be filed. However, that is not to say that Acrylic Nails are bad, just that gel nails may be the better option if you have the choice.
