The Common Entrance Test or CET is one of India’s well-known unified exams for admission in government (state) colleges across India for Full-Time diploma courses in Medical, Dental, and Engineering, etc…

The professional colleges in the state offering such courses are affiliated with the state run universities and admit students through the CET annually. The fee structure varies from year-to-year.

Let’s discuss about some details for Pre-CET (Engineering) which could help you:-

1. There are two kind of tests conducted for candidates aspiring to study Engineering, namely, CET Test-1 (10^th based Diploma Courses); CET Test-5 (Lateral entry of ITI/10+2 Vocational Stream – for admission in 3^rd semester)

2. For candidates applying for CET Test – 1 in Engineering, the candidate should have passed class 10^th or any equivalent exam conducted by CBSE with 35% aggregate marks in Science, Mathematics & English (passing in these 3 subjects is compulsory to be eligible for CET exam).

3. For candidates applying for CET Test – 5 in Engineering, the candidate should have passed analogous 12^th Vocational (Engg.) stream of CBSE or any equivalent exam with schools located only in Delhi with minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of best five subjects whose marks are reflected on the mark sheet.

4. Online Application Forms could be filled on the official CET website – cetdelhiexam.nic.in

5. Candidate’s AADHAR no. is compulsory for online submission of Application Form.

6. All information entered MUST be true, or else the candidate will be thrown out without prior notice, at any given point of time of the exam or admission process.

7. Separate forms are to be filled for different exams, i.e. 2 different forms for say, Test-1 & Test-5. Only 1 application is allowed per candidate per test.

8. Application fee changes from time-to-time, so you might want to check it beforehand on the official CET website.

9. Candidate must get a scanned digital copy of their Photograph, Signature, and Left Thumb Impression for uploading purposes at the time of filling their application form. It is mandatory.

10. Candidates must retain their Application No. for further use.

11. Candidates must take a print out of their Online Admit Card.

12. The Test & Category wise maximum age limit for all candidates as on 1^st August (every year) is as follows:-

Let’s discuss in some pointers about the Scheme of the CET:-

1. Test will be for 2 hours 30 minutes and will carry 600 marks.
2. The mode of exam will be Pen & Paper.
3. The medium of language for Test-1 & Test-5 will be both English and Hindi.
4. It will be a Multiple Choice Question paper with 150 questions in all.
5. OMR sheets will be used for answering.
6. Each question will carry 4 marks. Every correct answer awards you full 4 marks, whereas, you’ll lose 1 mark for each incorrect answer due to negative marking.

*No re-test(s) will be held for candidates who are unable to turn-up for the original exam.

Subjects and their Weightage in Exams:-

1. Test – 1
   1. Mathematics – 50 Questions
   2. Chemistry – 40 Questions
   3. Physics – 30 Questions
   4. Biology – 15 Questions
   5. English – 15 Questions

A total of 150 questions as per CBSE Syllabus for class 9^th and class 10^th.

2. Test – 5
   1. Physics – 60 Questions
   2. Mathematics – 60 Questions
   3. Chemistry – 30 Questions

A total of 150 questions as per CBSE Syllabus for class 11^th and class 12^th.

After the exams are conducted, the students are intimated about their results by online means and then according to their CET scores, the students are sent a list of colleges from which they can decide which college or university to enter for studying.

After that, counseling sessions start and the students are helped by professionals to make an easy and informed decision.

After the counseling sessions, students decide which institute to enter and that is when their other documents are verified and they are enrolled in for the studies.

Some other State-level CET’s are:-

1. EAMCET – The state of Andhra Pradesh conducts entrance test for admissions to engineering, agriculture and medical colleges in the region.

2. KEAM – Kerala government conducts a state level entrance exam for admissions to courses in engineering, architecture and medicine.

3. Karnataka CET – This is an entrance test that grants admission to deserving students in various professional degree colleges in the state of Karnataka.
