ORLANDO, Fla. —

A City of Orlando temporary/seasonal Employee has been accused of sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old boy.

The Orlando Police Department arrested Darian Jamal Fleming Friday.

Fleming was employed through the AmeriCorps program through the city. The program’s goal is to help others while meeting critical needs in the community.

Police said none of the misconduct happened on city property or school grounds.

According to an arrest report, the victim admitted to his mother that he had been having sex with Fleming for two months but didn’t provide further details.

The report said Fleming became close to the victim’s family and would stay at their home.

The victim told authorities when Fleming began to make advances he told him no, but Fleming would pull the teenager on top of him.

The victim told Fleming multiple times he did not want to have sexual intercourse with him, the report said.

In the report, the victim said Fleming told him not to tell anyone about their interactions.

The victim’s mother said she viewed Fleming as a brother and a close friend before the incident, and treated him as such for several years.

She said her son had tried to harm himself in the past year and she believes it had to do with his interactions with Fleming.

In the arrest report, the victim’s mother said she confronted Fleming in a text about the interaction, to which he allegedly replied, “I’m sorry I broke your trust… I’ll stay away from you guys.”

Fleming told authorities he thought it was because he had been horseplaying with the victim in his bedroom, and denied any inappropriate conduct with him.

The report said Fleming eventually confessed.

City of Orlando officials released the following statement:

“We are deeply concerned by this serious and troubling allegation about a temporary/seasonal employee in the city’s families, parks and recreation department. Upon notification of the arrest by the Orlando Police Department, the city terminated the employee and is fully cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation.

“The safety and protection of children in our community is our number one priority. We do not tolerate inappropriate or illegal behavior by any of our employees. All employees with our youth programs must undergo a thorough background check. This employee cleared a level 2 criminal background check and does not have a criminal history.”
