The Esports Highlights of the Week for February 19

The best Esports Highlights from the OCE scene!

Mindfreak did Oceania proud this week, making the Top 8 at the Rainbow Six Siege Invitationals. Back home, the E-League showcased some of the best of Aussie FIFA, and the first of the OPL’s two extended weeks saw plenty of action, but some predictable results as well.

Be sure to head over and check out the rest of the Esports hub! Remember you can email tips to me [email protected] or you can just click to send me an email. If you want, you can tweet suggestions at me as well, my twitter is down the bottom of this article.

Rainbow Six Siege – Six Invitational

Aussie team Mindfreak travelled over to Canada this week to take place in the biggest Rainbow Six Siege tournament of the year, the Six Invitational. They were written off repeatedly, but they battled hard and made it through to the Quarter Finals. Their Group Stage saw them face off against Room Factory, Rogue and Team Liquid — a narrow defeat to Rogue meant they had to beat Team Liquid to progress, and they managed it in a three game thriller. Watch Mindfreak’s Kngz clutch out a 1v4 against Room Factory, setting the tone for the Aussie team’s tournament.

And a little added bonus, the ‘plant behind the Monty’ routine is a play my friends and I call Operation Sex Panther, because 60% of the time it works every time. Mindfreak made it look easy against Rogue.

The Aussie team eventually fell to the Black Dragons in the Quarter Finals, but it was hopefully a wake-up call to the world — APAC is worth watching.

League of Legends – OPL Week 5

Week 5 is the first of two long weeks in the OPL, which means four teams play an extra game. Which is awesome if you enjoy watching League of Legends. The best game of the extended week was probably the first in my mind, as Legacy Esports and Avant met in a rematch from Week 3 and it was another slobberknocker. Legacy got up early, but Avant were simply too strong, winning 2-1. In the other games, Dire Wolves and Order both beat the Bombers 2-0, the Chiefs brought Avant back down to earth 2-0, Sin Gaming fell to the Dire Wolves and Legacy earned a win for the week going 2-0 against Tectonic. Watch Avant smash into Legacy below.

FIFA 18 – E-League Round 1

The first week of the A-League’s E-League took place last Thursday, and it featured some nail-biters. Melbourne City vs Sydney FC was extremely tight, as the Xbox round played out to a draw before the PS4 game sent the victory to Sydney FC. Adelaide United and the Central Coast Mariners was close as well — the Xbox round drew 2-2, and the PS4 round gave CCM a 1 goal lead. It’s hard to say yet whether there are strong favourites or not, but it does seem like the Xbox players might be more evenly matched than the PS4 group so far. The E-League compiles their own highlights each week, which is awesome – watch every goal from the week below.
